The tension stems from the fact that those who immigrate consequently face cultural changes. With such tension come the maladies that are often, if not always, psychological in nature. Children of immigrants are caught between cultures and have to make a choice to either immerse in their adopted culture or keep their traditional, ancestral culture. American and biblical plans for church planting will be compared. The distinctive challenges of New England for first and second generation Cambodian church planting will be observed. These challenges will then be addressed by building 'bridges' which create partnerships with individuals, families, churches and the community at large. The thesis is about developing Mandarin ministry in the Chinese Alliance Churches of Australia. It is to plant a mandarin speaking congregation in a Chinese church using the resources from both Cantonese congregations and second-generation English congregation. Using interviews with churches that have existing Mandarin ministry with mainland Chinese, the author researched and examined the contributing factors to an effective strategy to develop Mandarin ministry. The research included interviewing eight participants who gave 'testimonios' that documented evidence of transformation. The evidence parallels Mark's Gospel where Jesus called people to follow his 'Way' that ultimately transformed all areas of a person's life. The author examines the biblical foundation according to Matthew 29:19-20, and connects it with the Sermon on the Mount to find the way of shepherding them to become true disciples after their baptism. Based on the Sermon on the Mount, the author sets a strategy and writes a curriculum to teach new immigrants to observe the Lord's commandment and to fulfill the Great Commission. This material should meet the need of and help the growth of their Christian faith, become a citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven and be the salt and the light of the world. With an examination of existing literature the report began with a historical, theological, anthropological, and missiological prolegomena. The actual project consisted of forty-five in-depth interviews with three generations of Saxons from Kitchener-Waterloo and Aylmer, Ontario. The key conclusion of the research was that the role of the church has substantially deteriorated among all generations of Saxons. When older Saxons insisted on speaking German in club and church, they excluded their younger generation from participation and leadership.
