The project was a success. It consisted of six weekly sessions using readings from the book Healing for damaged emotions by David A. Seamands and discussion questions to stimulate group interaction. Group assessments consisting of pre- and post-test questionnaires were utilized to determine the effectiveness of small group ministry with this group of at-risk men. Based on the research, the project director developed four one-hour sessions. A total of nine men participated in the four training sessions. The four sessions involved cultivating the most important relationship, understanding the importance of leadership in the family, working on becoming a servant leader in the marriage, and modeling Christian fatherhood to children. A working outline of the project goals included the following: to research the field of literature concerning men in family leadership skills, to develop training sessions so the selected men could become effective spiritual leaders in family leadership skills, and to equip the men in effective family leadership skills. Within three missional ministry contexts, the researcher employed the grounded theory methodology, combining qualitative (interviews, questionnaires, observations, and field notes) and quantitative (forced-option surveys) tools to gather and triangulate data from 234 participants (225 group and nine treatment). The researcher designed, implemented, and subsequently measured the Missional Disciple Maker model. They sparked interested and motivated the male members for the short-term.
