Research has shown that older adults are helped by someone who asks questions about the past.  Loneliness and depression are common symptoms of older adults.  Without a feeling that life has had meaning in the past it is easy to lose identity and integrity.  Life review helps maintain a person's integrity, identity, and self-worth.  It provides a legacy to the younger generation.  It can help a person cope with loss, grief, and depression. To better understand the interaction between churches, synagogues and the aging network, data were gathered from clergy and elderly in one community.  Of 48 churches, 34 (71 percent) clergy responded to face-to-face interviews.  16 Of 18 social service agencies also agreed to be interviewed. Of the many kinds of programs provided to the elderly by churches, visitation is the most common: all 34 visited congregants in hospitals and all but 2 of 34, when homebound.  Among social service agencies 6 of 16 provide direct visitation, meals or other services to the homebound. While concern for the homebound in this community is clear, even though a local coordinating counseling exists to coordinate services, we found no coordination of services between the churches and the agencies. Exploratory research and theological correlation procedures were employed.  The project conceptualizes how liberation ministry can best serve the needs of the estranged person in this church.  The model for pastoral care in the institutional geriatric church represents theory building.
