Such traditional approaches to students in Christian schools as classroom Bible teaching and chapel services are not functioning effectively in modern Japan. From his own experience, the author proposes a new approach of volunteer work programs formed by small groups. When they are thrown into an entirely new life situation students ask existential questions. The way is then open for teachers to explain meanings of the Christian message. The theories of Erikson, Fowler and others provide the basis for discussions. The role of the teacher is crucial in this approach. Three biblical metaphors -- shepherd, wounded healer, and wise folly -- are used to examine the role."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130690141552640,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:35:36.514Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:14:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:38:49Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a4559d26-e07c-4af5-82e8-28c7416c110b","accessControl_ssim":["9c771de8-41ec-4584-8dff-51775d786813"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["New meaning in worship through a shared group process of worship education and worship design"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T23:14:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:54:32Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d8b771f9-132a-49e9-ab17-796d884a7b43"],"hasLease_ssim":["98b7751d-aaac-430d-b9ab-2ec0c59fc60f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"advisor_tesim":["Elizabeth Box Price"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kip E Wright"],"publisher_tesim":["Perkins School of Theology Southern Methodist University"],"subject_tesim":["Worship","Oklahoma City University (Oklahoma City, Okla)","Church work with students","Christian education"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project addresses the problem of whether or not worship education and worship design practiced through a shared group planning process can bring new meaning to worship. The author taught Survey of the Old Testament at East Texas State University in the fall of 1985. The course design included an understanding of the Old Testament as a canon of liberation and the teaching model focused on the development of a dialogical relationship between the students and the material. Evaluation was carried out through a process of testing and personal interviews, and the author concluded that the model led the students to both cognitive and affective transformation and that teaching the Old Testament at a state university is a legitimate form of ministry."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Perkins School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["9d359def-dc0f-4ac7-a978-8df771bc0984"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791127136374882304,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:39:07.379Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":3,"label":"Unknown"}],"label":"Resource Type"},{"name":"creator_sim","items":[{"value":"Kip E Wright","hits":1,"label":"Kip E Wright"},{"value":"Roy L Spore","hits":1,"label":"Roy L Spore"},{"value":"Tsugikazu Nishigaki","hits":1,"label":"Tsugikazu Nishigaki"}],"label":"Creator Sim"},{"name":"contributor_sim","items":[],"label":"Contributor"},{"name":"keyword_sim","items":[],"label":"Keyword"},{"name":"subject_sim","items":[{"value":"Church work with students","hits":3,"label":"Church work with students"},{"value":"Bible--Study","hits":1,"label":"Bible--Study"},{"value":"Christian education","hits":1,"label":"Christian education"},{"value":"Church group work","hits":1,"label":"Church group work"},{"value":"Church schools","hits":1,"label":"Church schools"},{"value":"Erikson, Erik H.
