The church staff and a college worker analyzed the college ministry, interviewed students, and studied a questionnaire to identify needs of students.  From this study the leaders developed a college program involving each organization of the church.  The project made the leadership more aware of students' needs. A control group met for an equal amount of time without the adventure-based component.  The elements of risk, fear, trust, communication, and danger were experienced in a non-shaming, supportive environment and served to reframe the students' childhood trauma of life in an alcoholic family.  Family systems theory and St Paul's 'body' analogy were illustrated in this study. Through a program based upon the gestalt cycle of experience and conducted in a university context, alienated Catholics were encouraged to redefine their religious symbols. The lessons sought to combine current social science moral development theory with religious and theological insights so as to support and enhance moral/spiritual development.  Foundational to the project was a theory base and paradigm produced by the author outlining and defining morally/spiritually rooted cultures.  Robert Kegan and James Fowler influenced this material.  Research included the field test and the development of a Moral/Spiritual Awareness Inventory which was also used in a limited external sample.  The inventory does seem to measure moral/spiritual development. This statement was tested with the use of a questionnaire, given as both a pretest and posttest, during the fall semester.  An effective female ministry was modeled during worship services in the semester, and a small group Bible study was held for four weeks in October. Data was compiled, cross-tabs were run, and the results were analyzed.  Sex was found to be of some significance as a factor in answering the questions. Chapter 2 presented the theological basis for moral and spiritual nurture.  Chapter 3 dealt with determining the needs of the freshman students.  The process of ministry was described in chapter 4.  Chapter 5 provided an evaluation of the project.
