The method of study used by the author was the pro-active model as outlined by William Myers in his book, Research in Ministry: A Primer for the Doctor of Ministry Program. The results of the research indicated that 50% of the participants who were not involved in ministries with the poor prior to the study-immersion experience became involved in such ministries following the experience. Additionally, 40% indicated that study alone provided such a motivation. 20% indicated that experience alone provided such a motivation, and 40% indicated that both study and experience led to such a change in their lives. Individuals who participate in this ministry project must have a desire to transform their economic status beyond receiving temporary band-aid assistance to acquiring long-term comprehensive remedies for the wounds they are inflicted with as a result of living in poverty.  This transition will allow the poor to become meaningful participants in the economy.  Since gainful employment is the cure for their poverty wounds, they will be empowered to learn to use their talents and resources to sustain themselves and their families and enjoy a meaningful life. This empowerment process will be implemented through training in various basic education, employment, and financial management skills.
