It was designed to help congregations and their communities determine their unique ministry callings. Discovery process methods included Bible study, interviews, individual and group assessments, observer-monitor sheets and a list of possible health ministry ideas. The four tested congregations exhibited greater interest in faith and health. These congregations determined the most prevalent congregational diseases, stressors, and some previously unknown health issues. Specifically, this chapter analyzes the theological reflections and its influences on the growth and nurture of the church. Chapter three identifies the historical significance of hospitals and nursing homes. Attention is also given to the nature and structure of hospitals and nursing homes. Chapter four addresses the selection of volunteers for training in hospital visitation. An analysis of the instruments used for preparation is included. Because of the limitations of this project the specific areas covered are limited to the pastoral rites of healing.  In addition to the given rites, a survey of clergy, with episcopal guidance, was used to gather information. Chapter five argues that such a ministry fit the Disciples ethos and world view as manifested at First Christian Church in Goldsboro, North
