The intervention hypothesized that combining and applying the theories of hope and purpose pedagogically and through mentoring models could resolve the undifferentiated angst in the sample group.  This study concluded that a sense of hope and purpose is an effective antidote to the anger and aimlessness experienced by the members of the cohort. The researcher used case study and grounded theory to generate data.  The results suggested a model that should contain five elements.  Pastors must train current leaders in transformational self-leadership.  Second, trained leaders must invite young mentees into a mentoring relationship. Third, all parties must agree on the goals.  Fourth, there must be regular meetings between the mentor and the mentee. The church must change its conversation with young adults if it desires a hopeful future beyond the current generation of pastoral leadership. Through analyzing call narratives of ordained young adults, and by identifying ministry strategies of nurturing congregations, best congregational practices emerge: asking the 'call' question, mentoring, service, leadership opportunities, and connecting with the larger church.
