The project sought through pastoral care, demonstrated in an intentional small group process, to promote theological reflection about meaningful living. The desired effect was to know the fact of one's death to be an impetus for life. This report outlines theological and psychological bases for the concept of anticipatory grief. Methodology entailed determination of issues the participants wanted addressed as well as delineation of the mechanics of the phenomenon of anticipatory grief. The project showed a positive correlation between a constructive sense of anticipatory grief and a sense of meaning for life. Through a teaching curriculum called 'Theology for Dummies,' a group of members from First Baptist Church learned simple steps for applying the Word of God to their everyday lives. Chapter one of the report describes the ministry setting of the First Baptist Church and defines the need for and goals of the project. Chapter two is a biblical survey of the relationship between beliefs and behaviors. Through examining several Old and New Testament passages the author concludes that God has given mankind His Word with the intention that it change human behavior. Chapter three is an examination of some social theories of learning. Chapter four describes the 'Theology for Dummies' curriculum. Chapter two reviews the creation of man and woman, as told in Genesis, and offers an interpretation of God's intention for their relationship, which humans have aborted. Chapter three examines the disciplines of the psychosocial sciences with particular focus on Erikson's life-cycle task for the young adult's struggle to develop from isolation to intimacy. Four experiential small groups were conducted in the development of the program sponsored by the Immanuel Baptist Church of Lexington, Kentucky. The methodology was largely intuitive, integrating the life experience of the author and psychological and theological literature. The stated goal was to guide young adults toward emotional and spiritual healing within the small group context. The series of instruction and support was designed to help adults identify connections between experiences of parental divorce and present relationship difficulties. Biblical materials dealing with divorce and related pastoral care issues were explored to provide foundation, context and themes for this ministry. Out of these themes came the five sessions of the adult child of divorce workshop. One conclusion was that small group dynamics are crucial to the healing process."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Southern Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["55f1694e-f3f1-43ea-8ca9-da9a2899defe"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128449814888448,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:59:59.973Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"D.Min.
