This thesis-project explored the possibility that embracing a Christian identity can help second-generation Chinese American college students and young adults navigate the potential difficulties between their ethnic and national identities. To help participants embrace a Christian identity and apply it to their cultural identities, a 13-week lesson series, Between Two Worlds, structured around the categories of believing, being, belonging, and behaving, was implemented. Participants took initial and final surveys to evaluate the efficacy of the lesson series in establishing the necessity of a Christ-centered identity and in providing a mental framework for identity development."],"license_tesim":["https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/"],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://archive.org/details/between-two-worlds-thesis"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130291943768064,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:29:16.764Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:08:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:08:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"7c6cf0e2-b72c-4cce-955f-9e52dae8287d","accessControl_ssim":["73a27a62-cfff-4d70-b412-1378cf2ba666"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a Unified Disciple-Making Strategy for Antioch Baptist Church to Reach College Students in Boston, Massachusetts"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:08:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T01:48:14Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["dac4b9ae-6f46-4090-9e24-ac9bb72cda3f"],"hasLease_ssim":["fde06515-7ea4-4322-9ae7-283a2906855f"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Preston Nix Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Massachusetts"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. The project director used the strategy planning model. The project director investigated existing disciple-making strategies popularized by Southern Baptist and non-Southern Baptist evangelical organizations as well as lesser-known programs in discipleship. The project director completed a systems audit by examining case studies of church members whose lives have changed significantly through discipleship. The project director studied the disciple-making strategies already used and currently in use at Antioch Baptist Church to reach college students in Boston, resulting in an organizational profile. The program director enlisted a team and held sessions to analyze the various discipleship programs and synthesize the most effective elements into a single unified strategy for disciplemaking. There are several good collegiate ministries operating in Quebec; however, all their numbers combined show only a 0.2 percent engagement of the university student population. To reach collegiate students for Christ in Quebec, there must be a concerted effort by the local church to engage college students with the Gospel. The project in ministry was to develop a strategy for the local church to use the University Impact House model to evangelize and disciple college students in Quebec. The Impact House is a rented house or apartment in proximity to a university campus. It houses Christian students who live on mission for God to impact their fellow students with the Gospel. The Impact House typically serves a free weekly meal to attract and connect with lost students. The Impact House also has weekly Bible studies, worship nights and prayer meetings for those that have responded and need to be discipled. The Impact House model, in existence since 2009 in Quebec, has proved effective in connecting with unchurched college students. The project in ministry adapted the strategy to implement in the local church context."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5e492469-490e-44a3-90c1-17560a603bc2"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791126074106576896,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:22:14.321Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:07:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:18:57Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"be4d1363-ab31-4b14-90b0-5cc3f68893c9","accessControl_ssim":["a1a3ad44-ff40-422d-ba09-24ab586091d6"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a Life-Stage Transition Strategy from Pre-Adolescence to Post-Adolescence for Emerald Coast Fellowship, Lynn Haven, Florida"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:07:46Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:36:48Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f8331d8e-3743-4a0b-97d9-c5e7644d4e7a"],"hasLease_ssim":["2d7540b7-e5e7-42ea-b987-ecae63249279"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David Odom Ph.D."],"year_tesim":["2022"],"location_tesim":["Florida"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. Whether or not the Church acknowledges it, the Church operates as a not for profit business, performing the functions of a theater (the worship service with music and programs), a school (with teachers, students and curriculum) and even a restaurant (family night potluck dinners and fundraising dinners). Yet the Church typically resists business practices. 2.) This project emphasizes the need to know what our product is and what message we need to use to reach Millennials. Assuming we agree Jesus is the \"product‚\", we need to know how to proclaim to others why Jesus matters. And, we need to know the best way to message our product in this Postmodern Era. 3.) This project promotes developing a marketing strategy in and for the Church. Marketing strategies seek to understand the best way to attract the targeted group and develop programs to meet their needs whereas evangelism usually seeks to assimilate people into the membership of the existing programs of the Church. 4.) This project suggests a step by step plan to do Inreach, which is a deliberate process to prepare a congregation to do Outreach. Inreach is a necessary but often neglected step in preparing people to accept an adaptive change. People within the organization must be trained to see themselves as part of the sales team so that Outreach can be successful. 5.) This project suggests a step by step plan to do an Intentional Outreach Program. 6.) Emerging adults face many challenges during this period in life in the areas of education, relationships, work, careers, living arrangements, and many more. They are looking for answers to questions such as: Who am I? Why am I here? What is life all about? These individuals need guidance in understanding their worldview, values, vocation, and personality and giftedness. Emerging adults need a decision-making paradigm to assist them in navigating the challenges and questions during this crucial stage in life."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c654e922-76d0-4427-ac29-e286b7997781"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716229217255424,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T01:59:04.624Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:56:43Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5bfd6a6d-d9e8-478a-9881-6c9369fd53fc","accessControl_ssim":["0f7378e5-ada8-488f-9baa-24a6f4288bec"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Digitization \u0026 neodocetism : Generation Z's understanding of their bodies in light of expanding digital existences"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:56:43Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:50:17Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["ca511cd4-d4e1-425d-81b9-18611bdfa911"],"hasLease_ssim":["8fd636d7-e9ca-42fb-9fbd-9771296b7e58"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Dan Doriani"],"year_tesim":["2021"],"resource_type_tesim":["Dissertation"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Seth Troutt"],"subject_tesim":["Church work with youth","Pastoral counseling","Church work with young adults"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this study is to examine how Christian therapists and professors describe the impact of digitization on Generation Z’s bodily self-concept. Generation Z has grown up with phones in their hands and with their friends in their phones. Pastors must consider the effects digitization will have on the iGen and give substantial reflection on how digitized ecclesiologies might contribute to gnostic instincts in the information age. This study utilized a qualitative design using semi-structured interviews with seven Christian therapists and professors with extensive experience working with Generation Z. The interviews focused on gaining data with three research questions: 1) How do Christian therapists and professors describe Gen Z’s self-understanding of their bodies? 2) How do Christian therapists and professors describe the impact of digitization on Gen Z’s views of their bodies? 3) How do Christian therapists and professors advise ministry leaders to minister to Gen Z concerning Gen Z Christians’ views of their bodies? The literature review focused on four key areas to understand ministry in this context: theology of the body, theology of technology, digital effect on bodily self-concept, and Generation Z’s relationship with digitization. This study concluded that digitization does contribute to overly developed dualistic instincts in Generation Z. This reduces personhood to cognition, promotes dissociative instincts with regards to bodily processes, dislodges self from place, and fragments self-concept. Ministry leaders ought to resist the effects of digitization by means of teaching a robust theology of the body, training parents, creating embodied experiences, and helping Generation Z see the goodness of congruence in Christ."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"related_url_tesim":["https://covenantlibrary.org/etd/2021/Troutt_Seth_DMin_2021.pdf"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Covenant Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e57e5218-1d34-47f5-b1a5-b84efbc9e61f"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130860198559744,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:18.694Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:56:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:41:14Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"d9defc91-b81b-4672-9691-5d67a25c4938","accessControl_ssim":["06ca8345-82d7-4a9a-93d2-7cab33922792"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Relationships between personality types and sin tendencies of young adult Christians."],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T19:56:07Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:21:43Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["a10c3d63-7d62-4545-b8c0-01b56d89c29c"],"hasLease_ssim":["3a9b9520-9f2d-44de-887e-b306eac97f5c"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Andi Thacker Ph.D.","M. It began with a descriptive survey which yielded fifty-three usable responses.Following the survey, the researcher conducted in-depth interviews with seven of therespondents in order to gain deeper insight regarding the impact their personalitypreferences had on their patterns of behavior. When considered in combination, the quantitative and qualitative resultsverified strong relationships between six of the eight preferences and specific sintendencies.
