The paper's thesis is that a model can be developed to reach suburban Chinese-Canadian youth (SCCY), ages 14-18, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada. First the paper defines suburbia, its characteristics, history and trends. Next the project's theological foundations are presented with the argument that the church can minister to SCCY. Relevant publications are reviewed. Toronto suburban living's impact on SCCY spirituality is examines. Research and the experience of one upper middle-class, suburban, United Church of Christ congregation show that many young adults eschew traditional theological language, doctrine, and worship. However, many yearn for stronger connections with God and others who value spirituality. Through reflection, worship, and service, we engaged with the young adults of our church. Consultations with professors and church leaders both in India and in the US, the proposal, ethnography, and the reporting spanned twenty-six months. Twenty constituents including the youth who left, youth currently attending, parents, and pastors were interviewed along with questionnaires. The findings reveal that the youth left because these congregations have been lacking active ministries. A focus group and surveys were used to help gain the necessary research. This was accomplished by developing an integrated discipleship strategy for young people, parents, and senior citizens to collaborate on biblical mandates and other resources to transform all of their lives spiritually. Resources included literary research, youth minister interviews, and two decades of youth ministry experience. Laws seperating church and state will not allow mentors to evangelize on school grounds. The school selected 10 boys that would benefit from a mentoring relationship and the church provided the mentors. One on one meetings, group sessions and field trips were used to teach character and leadership traits. This paper is the report of a study using action research involving teenage members of a suburban Chicago church in a survey and small group reflections on their attitudes towards other faiths and their understanding of religious difference. The results show that tolerant views held by these young people owe more to secular expediency than religious commitment.  Beliefs are private and rarely shared, even among close friends.
