First, a biblical examination of the legitimacy of the office is undertaken.  If, in fact, one is going to take the title of 'pastor,' what does that mean?  A brief study regarding the primary responsibility of the 'pastor' as a teacher of God's Word is examined.  The first chapter closes with a theological study of the significance of teaching in an expository manner. The exact definition of expository preaching is then evaluated, especially as set against what is commonly referred to as 'topical preaching.'  The way in which expository preaching fits into the ministry of a youth pastor committed to God's design for ministry is then discussed.  A five-chapter manual follows for training youth pastors in expository preaching. The first chapter revisits the job definition of a youth pastor -- according to God.  The second chapter seeks to clearly lay out expository teaching/preaching as the only legitimate manner of preaching -- for it has at its heart the understanding, communication, and application of the authorial intent of the passage.  Chapter 3 focuses on seven specific principles of hermeneutics.  It is designed to assist youth pastors as they seek to determine a biblical author's intent through exegesis.  Chapter 4 discusses how to convey that intent into an adolescent's world, using the Ladder of Abstraction.  Chapter 5 addresses twelve guidelines for writing a message with the youth culture in mind. This project is designed, through an expository sermon, to reintroduce the listener to a premarital process (courtship) that in the past produced more solid and committed marriages in the history of America, but unfortunately has been long forgotten. In this study a pre-sermon survey was taken to cull the respondents' preconceived ideas about the subject of courtship followed by the preaching of a message on the subject of virtue of courtship rather than traditional American dating. Following the preaching of the sermon, a post-sermon survey was taken to see if the respondents' opinions had changed based on the information they received from the sermon. Did this sermon persuade the respondents to change their opinion and consider the premarital process of courtship as a more virtuous process than traditional dating? That is the answer this project seeks to find out. Relationships are essential to the proper maturation and growth of an individual. Unfortunately, at-risk youth fail to experience positive, nurturing connections with significant adults in their lives.  Mentors have a valuable opportunity to demonstrate to a young person these lacking qualities through an intimate relationship of mutual trust.  This project focuses on leading a group of adults through the beginning stages of forming a mentoring relationship with a young person susceptible to self-deprecating behavior without intervention. The cultural changes of the Emerging Generation in Korean society were examined using the system perspectives approach. This study has four major parts. The first part examines changes in Korean society. The second part assists Korean churches in understanding the Emerging Generation's culture. The third part explores the barriers faced by Korean churches in reaching out to the Emerging Generation. The fourth part develops a model of missional worship to accommodate the needs of the Emerging Generation. Three research methods, questionnaires, group interviews and case studies were used to gather primary data. Questionnaires were given to 145 members of the Emerging Generation in Daejon. The questionnaires explored the Emerging Generation's culture. The project involved enlisting eighteen collegiate facilitators for the training workshop.  The workshop consisted of eight sessions taught in four days.  The dates of implementation were May 22-26, 2003.  After the training, the workship and the participants were evaluated.  The project director assessed the findings by using post-tests, covenant cards, and role-playing. Ch. 1. Introduces Mount Olive Baptist Church and its surrounding community. The demographics of the community and the church show that the congregation places its focus on the development of its youth and believes in the value of education. Ch. 2 addresses the biblical and theological issues surrounding youth. Ch.3 sets forth a paradigm for understanding the growth and development of youth. Ch. 4 Explains the process used in implementing the project. The pre and post seminar questionnaires and the focus group were the tools used to evaluate the effectiveness of the seminar. The final chapter of the project focuses on analysis and evaluation. This work contends that effective youth ministry must be done from a holistic perspective. A holistic youth program seeks to engage the young person at every level of their being--spiritually, socially, academically, psychologically, and physically.
