The main content of the resource came from Dr. Terry Wardle's books concerning healing care and spiritual formation. The resource was evaluated by seven caregivers (ordained pastors and licensed counselors) in the field of healing care groups. The mean for the twenty-one qualitative questions was 6.44 out of a possible 7.00, suggesting that the resource received a highly favorable evaluation. Using narrative methods, the researcher studied five Presbyterian congregations that are flourishing in the aftermath of decreased membership. Data compiled and assessed in 2001 from 125 married corps officers randomly selected from across the USA Eastern Territory are utilized to structure a Married Officer Leadership seminar for the married officers from the same division. Salvation Army married corps of officers appear to evidence above average marital satisfaction rates and relate positively to the sense of shared vocation and calling. The methods used for the study are literary and historical research,surveys and interviews. Chapter 1 of this study introduces the project.  Chapter 2 provides a biblical foundation by examining specific prays of Abraham, Jonah and Nehemiah from the Old Testament, and the instructions on pray by Jesus and Paul in the New Testament;a further theological study in this chapter considers the impact such a ministry may have upon a church. Chapter 3 examines the visible needs for a prayer ministry, the obstacles to such a ministry, the kinds of prayer needed in such a ministry, the steps for starting such a ministry, and the historical role of such a ministry in American revivals. Chapter 4 gives the steps taken to implement this project, and chapter 5 gives an evaluation, conclusion and future recommendations concerning this project. With record numbers of men entering their mid-life years, the Church is facing a new challenge as a large number of its ministers are facing mid-life transition. This paper, 'The Effects of Mid-life Transition on a Man's Call to the Ministry,' examined the relationship between a man's mid-life transition and his earlier calling from God to the vocational ministry. The following questions served as the basis of the research: 1. What is mid-life transition in men? 2. What biblical and theological perspectives on calling are relevant to understanding the developmental effects of mid-life transition on the minister? 3. What impact does mid-life transition have upon a minister's sense of calling and ministerial identity? 4. What can be done to prepare and support men in ministry during their mid-life transitions? This study reviewed the pertinent literature on men and mid-life transition from secular and Christian perspectives with a concluding focus on men in vocational ministry. The theological framework of the relationship between one's calling and mid-life transition and the biblical, theological, and historical aspects of calling, ministry, and mid-life were examined. The methodology used for the exploratory study in interviewing ministers revealed several important themes which emerged: calling does not guarantee vocational clarity in mid-life, mid-life affects a man's understanding of his calling, community support affects calling, God is not necessarily an enemy during mid-life, and the important role of the spouse during mid-life. Much of this results from an imbalance in ministerial style.  The traditional style of ministry has an excessive analytical, logical approach.  What is needed is a balancing of this approach with an intuitive, relational, in-depth type of awareness.  Ministry which involves a balanced awareness has many implications. Application can take place in sermon preparation, worship experiences, pastoral care, and organnizational planning. Meditative experiences are especially congruent for encouraging a balance. The design of system analysis provided an excellent way of organizing and developing the project. The methodology was to use surveys, committee evaluations and committee reports.  The committee reports were presented to the church.  System analysis was used to study each ministry.  The result was a ten-percent increase in awareness of the ministries of First Baptist Church.  A similar increase was evidenced in the involvement of the members in ministry.
