Present practice is not consistent with historical Christianity nor with Wesleyan Methodism.  To be actively involved in the healing of the broken body of Christ this part of their heritage must be understood and reclaimed. Meeting with a reflection group, representative of the congregation, Methodist eucharistic heritage, ecumenical and liturgical renewal, and local customs were studied. The church year provided the vehicle through which themes of the eucharist were celebrated.  Taped interviews with the congregation following each service helped assess progress. In structuring teaching, regular worship, and focused discussions, a group of congregational leaders journeyed together through Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost, noting their faith experiences and encouraging one another in faithful living. The use of the liturgical year as the operative framework allowed new members to be introduced to the basic worship life of the church.  The Revised Common Lectionary provided a biblical foundation which was compared and contrasted with Congregational principles as described in Arthur Rouner's The Congregational way of life.
