Chapter 1 sets the parameters of the project and defines urban ministry.  Along with the church's history and demography, key factors that have contributed to the church's long-term growth and vitality are examined.  Chapter 2 contains the biblical and theological foundation for church growth.  The biblical analysis is meshed with the theological implications for urban ministry.  Chapter 3 focuses on the inherent obstacles that challenge an inner city congregation.  Special attention is given to confronting and overcoming a wide variety of common church growth impediments.  Chapter 4 includes principles and methods that have facilitated the sustained growth of an inner city church.  These transferable concepts can assist other churches' productivity. Chapter 5 provides an evaluation of accomplishments and remaining challenges. Chapter 1 identified the challenges facing the church and defined the project's purpose. Chapter 2 explored the biblical concepts of spiritual gifts with special emphasis on the implications of spiritual possession and its relationship with the individual personality. Chapter 3 articulated the implications of using the Enneagram personality typologies as a tool for liberating the spirit within the individual. Chapter 4 outlined the Spiritual Gifts Workshop used to implement the program. Chapter 5 evaluated the effects of the workshop within both a short-term (six week) and long-term (five year) framework. Genesis is an inner city community church located in Louisville, Kentucky. The intent of the project was to discover an approach having the potential to transform an introverted survival church into a vital faith-based urban empowerment center.
