When I first arrived, the church was closed and set to be demolished.  By inspiring the remaining congregation, and empowering them using the principles espoused by the Second Vatican Council of reversing the hierarchy of the clergy and by following Jackson W. Carroll's model of how to exercise authority, they performed outreach in the surrounding community, extending an invitation to non-affiliated Catholics to attend Saint Peter's, and by listening to the spiritual needs of the people. The result was the expansion of the church to the point that it was possible to reopen the church building. This paper will take a look at today's urban youth culture and at why it is so important to reach them with the gospel while they are young.  The author will present a theological framework for urban youth ministry, providing a biblical basis for a culturally relevant ministry to kids.  This project will also examine ingredients for an effective urban youth ministry by utilizing a 'hexagoning' research process based on systems thinking. The fruition of this vision is to establish an urban ministry resource center to serve churches, thus promoting the spread of the Gospel.  The Emmanuel Gospel Center in Boston was the model.  Social analysis, study of urban Christian literature, relevant biblical texts, hexagoning and implementing ministries around the felt needs of urban Christian leaders were the methodology.  This research reveals that churches in Boston and Springfield are multiplying. This thesis concludes the rurban preacher must become proficient in three languages: the Bible, the rural mindset, and the urban mindset.  The author explains how every culture is fallen and must find a common residence at the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ.
