The project involved three phases. Phase one included the selection of participants from diverse cultural backgrounds, and designing of learning activities. Phase two was the actual training event. Phase three involved the post-training interview and evaluation of participants and the project director. Documents on deacon selection and training criteria were produced. The case studies used are from the American Baptist Churches of Massachusetts, but the findings apply to the whole Christian community. I understand that the intent of God since creation was for humanity to be diverse and to live together in harmony. Using my experiences as Area Minister, I explore some of the major barriers we need to overcome in order to create multicultural churches. The aim was to determine the issues that are importnt to once-churched individuals and how to shape sermons on these issues. During the project, both churched and once-churches individuals completed surveys to determine their feelings about the church and their personal needs.  Four sermons were crafted in response to these surveys.  Participants listened to and responded to each sermon.  Changes were made to future sermons based upon the response each week. Furthermore, in recounting church members' reflections upon the diversity of God's Kingdom with his own, the author challenges prejudice and conservative attitudes from fresh angles. Chapter 1 sets the parameters of the project and defines urban ministry.  Along with the church's history and demography, key factors that have contributed to the church's long-term growth and vitality are examined.  Chapter 2 contains the biblical and theological foundation for church growth.  The biblical analysis is meshed with the theological implications for urban ministry.  Chapter 3 focuses on the inherent obstacles that challenge an inner city congregation.  Special attention is given to confronting and overcoming a wide variety of common church growth impediments.  Chapter 4 includes principles and methods that have facilitated the sustained growth of an inner city church.  These transferable concepts can assist other churches' productivity. Chapter 5 provides an evaluation of accomplishments and remaining challenges. Chapter 1 identified the challenges facing the church and defined the project's purpose. Chapter 2 explored the biblical concepts of spiritual gifts with special emphasis on the implications of spiritual possession and its relationship with the individual personality. Chapter 3 articulated the implications of using the Enneagram personality typologies as a tool for liberating the spirit within the individual. Chapter 4 outlined the Spiritual Gifts Workshop used to implement the program. Chapter 5 evaluated the effects of the workshop within both a short-term (six week) and long-term (five year) framework.
