Its purpose is to be of benefit to the Project Leader, the participating pastors and the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  As a beginning point the project leader will select a group of culturally diverse pastors whose churches cooperate with the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  These pastors will attend training sessions designed to assist them in their understanding of vision in general; however, the focus is the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.  Other training sessions will involve the study of church and community demographics and an examination of the culture of the pastor and his congregation. Finally, the pastors will be encouraged to discover how the vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas might be relevant in their culture and environment.  The vision of the Baptist General Convention of Texas is built around the concept of churches being the presence of Christ in the world. Consequently, pastoral leadership development and practice suffers.  Pastoral leadership is an integration of theology, spirituality, and ministry incorporating all pastoral roles and functions.  The aim of this study has been to ascertain principles pastoral leaders within the Church of God have found helpful in building effective pastoral leadership. Principles of leadership have been identified from a study of the relevant literature, including the Bible.  Specific applications of pastoral leadership principles to Church of God pastorates, and any alterations or adaptations for the unique needs of pastoral leaders in the Church of God, have been identified via personal interviews and a representative survey within the organization itself. Pastoral leadership in this study is 'guiding a congregation for God'--specifying that the Lord uses a pastor to help guide his or her congregation in becoming and doing all that Christ wills for it to become and do. The institute was aimed at developing leadership potential and was designed to introduce participants to thirteen core competency areas considered important for successful church leadership.  Each program component, activity, and course was designed to strengthen the participants knowledge in one or more of these competency areas. After first examining traditional assumptions of authority, the project turns to feminist theologians who offer a different paradigm. The research focuses on six clergywomen serving as pastors/heads of staff in large membership congregations in the Presbyterian Church (USA), and considers how they, as women, embody and exercise authority using a model of partnership rather than the hierarchical model to which the church has been accustomed.  The project proposes that this paradigm provides some new alternatives for the church in carrying out its
