The project offers a theology of ministry and a methodology for enabling the parish community to claim its ministry in the world and in the church.  Recorded interviews with staff members and those who share in the various ministries provide the foundation for the analysis. A course of study was written to be taught in ten lessons covering the following subjects: the mandate to evangelize, memorization, personal testimony, gospel content, commitment, pre-evangelism, handling objections, and follow up.  An accompanying teacher's manual was provided.  Teaching methodology included the use of an overhead projector, role playing, lecture, discussion, and small group activities. The research involved a Likert-type questionnaire, open-ended comments and personal interviews (39) completed by a combined total of 204 persons, 60 pastors and 144 lay persons.  The study demonstrates that the pastoral relations committees are an effective means of support and feedback for ministry and serve, secondarily, but helpfully, in the area of personnel matters.  The pastoral relations committees theological framework relies heavily upon 'unconditional acceptance'.  The author recommends further theological development focused on the stewardship of gifts. Secondarily, the study provides a survey of needs for establishing a training center for laity involved in ministry. Seven parishes and 106 clergy participated in the study.  Surveys were distributed during homily time at a Sunday liturgy in the seven parishes.  A discussion was held afterwards to help interpret the results.  Another survey, similar to the one distributed to the laity, was mailed to the active parish clergy.  The study indicated a positive attitude toward lay ministry among laity and clergy.  Theologically, the laity viewed lay ministry primarily as sharing in the priest's ministry.  The clergy indicated a concern about certain canonical issues and a distinction of roles.  Both groups saw a need for education and formation in lay ministry. The methodology includes a study of Reformed worship and scripture, theological reflection, theme development, informing liturgy, and sharing ideas for sermon development. This approach has confused the pastoral identity of some students. The present study explores the use of religious history in clinical settings to clarify pastoral identity and enhance professional growth.  A basic clinical unit was designed to make extensive use of religious history. A model for understanding the clergy divorce process emerged with recommendations for pastoral care and counseling.  The data confirms that clergy with children experience fourteen predictable salient events and clergy without children experience twelve salient events in the divorce process.  This modified ethnographic study demonstrates that some of these events are more painful than others. Feelings, activities, and reasons for retirement were considered and included: anticipation of freedom from the schedule of meetings and other time-intensive demands; expectations to continue their calling as ministers in some way; and satisfaction in retirement related to collegiality if practiced in active ministry.  The author suggests that all levels of church governing bodies reconsider their policies and programs for the retirement of ministers.
