The objectives are to orient the new pastors about ethnicity in the United States, to inform them about the Southern Baptist Convention and to lead them to contextualize the gospel, ecclesiology, and polity in their congregations. The research was done through a series of questionnaires and evaluations which influenced the content of the seminar. The seminar was planned and implemented as a two-hour seminary course. The goals of the study are to demonstrate the magnitude of the problem and describe the different ways the clergy minister to unchurched parents.  Fifteen parish clergy in the Archdiocese of Baltimore were interviewed.  The history of infant baptism along with current canon law is examined to put the unchurched parent problem in context. Clergy respondents prefer a leadership style of people orientation.  In transitional communities, church growth is correlated with population changes and church programming. Seminary catalogues confirm this statement. In the author's experience the beginning of one's ministry at a church is a crucial time; hence leadership is extremely important.  According to LC-MS statistics (1977-1987) 17.2 percent of the Synod's parish clergy began a new ministry each year.  The author offers practical insights on congregations and leadership. The project documented a nine-month intervention process specifically designed for one parish.  As a result of the intervention, the council members grew in their understanding of the church's mission, the pastor acquired new ministerial skills, accountability was more evident, and the council and its commissions functioned more effectively.  This study found that collaborative ministry requires commitment and patience. Some implications for the recruitment, training and assignment of ministers are identified. The first hypothesis, that there would be significant disagreement (defined as 15 percentage points) between the chaplains and civilian clergy on the issues surveyed, was proven false.  The data did support the second hypothesis, which stated that chaplains would be more informed than the civilian clergy on questions involving the chaplain-denominational relationship. He assumes that ministers are less assertive than the general population and that Wesleyan ministers are less assertive than non-Wesleyan ministers.  He tests 282 ministers in Michigan (who represent the Wesleyans, and 4 other denominations) by using the adult self-expression scale.  The study finds that ministers in general (except for Wesleyans) are significantly more assertive than the general population. Wesleyan ministers are significantly less assertive than non-Wesleyans.  Assertiveness is compared with passive and aggressive expressions. The purpose of the study is to develop a crisis consultation model to be used by a third party consultant.  The areas of research include: conflict and conflict management in the church; multiple staff ministry; collaborative ministry versus hierarchical ministry; crisis with a third party consultant.  Two case studies are conducted with follow-up interviews.  The two pastoral staffs that are studied indicate a greater receptivity to dealing with conflict. Openness and better communication are the result.
