A brief comprehension of AAP-A clergy couples' uniqueness is presented. Spiritual formation, conservatism, and expressive love are matters of concern for AAP-A clergy couples facing marital anxiety. The biblical theme of expressive love is the framework for understanding the personhood in need and key to marital health. Family systems theories support biblical principles to formulate a counseling approach that elucidates expressive love. The 6 stresses are finances, time, pressure for results, isolation, penetrating a closed rural system, and lack of preparation in seminary. It examines the biblical basis of marriage, ministry, and stress through biblical characters. Research consisted of extended interviews of 9 rural pastors who share experiences in each area of stress. Both pastors and experts in counseling and ministerial training evaluated the model. Clergy couples are growing in numbers in many denominations in the Church.  Statistics show many clergy couples are not experiencing healthy relationship, lifestyles, or ministries.  In the first phase of the Project clergy couples came together to examine and share the concerns and challenges they felt were unique to and being faced by clergy couples.  The couples developed a support group and felt understood for who they were and who God has called them to be.  Through a series of meetings, communications, and group sharing, the clergy couples brought healing, nurturing, and encouragement to one another. In a qualitative study of 12 Episcopal/Anglican clergy couples in the United States and Canada, the project finds that couple ministry is an authentic call of God for transformation of the church, but the personal cost to these couples is high. Three testing instruments assesed marital satisfaction while three others assessed problem-solving skills, self-esteem, and personal tendencies.
