Such churches often become stuck in a cycle of bad relationships with pastors, which is triangulated into conflicted relationships between the members of the congregation. A process addressed conflict, grief and shame. Particular leadership qualities effectively supported the healing process Finally, an attitude of grace for pastor was cultivated."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Hartford Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8e52e4c8-38b6-4846-872d-a744b4f5725d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799719993141624832,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:58:54.182Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:05:47Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:11:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f52e47a9-bee1-4ccf-b569-3666714183f3","accessControl_ssim":["7d133989-385c-4592-8c56-268153e33edf"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Religious addiction: mobilizing a congregational response"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T12:05:47Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:08:07Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["74793f49-fca9-442f-baf8-9d2fc6aa3cf6"],"hasLease_ssim":["cc6e122b-9750-4146-835c-c3da1072efa9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Douglas Hall"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"location_tesim":["Massachusetts","United States"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Regina A Pinto-Moura"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church history","Clergy--Malpractice","Brazilians","Church work with immigrants"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["There are important issues among immigrant churches in Massachusetts, such as abuse of pastoral authority and the need for new healthy religious approaches. Evangelical communities have become fragmented due to a number of destructive behaviors. The result is that a convergence of powerful stresses in directly harming the Brazilian community. Despite the diversity of beliefs and practices, many Brazilian immigrants have been sustained in the displacement and adaptation to American society by regular church attendance. However, many have burned out. There is a dearth of research addressing addiction and spiritual abuse among members of Brazilian Christian Churches. The goal of this thesis is to explore and clearly identify how this spiritual abuse has occurred, what its impacts on the community are and to suggest some approaches to heal the victims. First, the paper examines some of the root causes of dysfunction in Brazilian churches. Second, a review of pertinent literature on understanding Brazilians and their faith is presented. Third, systems thinking is used to determine the current level of dysfunction and abuse in order to identify strategies for healing. Finally, specific strategies and proposals for intervention are identified."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132946293325824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:11:28.149Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:30:31Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:27:28Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"b41e7959-3707-42e8-84ff-43abbe3db524","accessControl_ssim":["4308d34a-7d99-47f4-83e2-3fc5acc057a9"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Afterpastors: relational harm and healing in the aftermath of clergy misconduct"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:30:31Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:20:04Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["eceded18-6cfd-417f-bb6b-c420e10f1ec7"],"hasLease_ssim":["3cc701cc-448d-4ef7-8467-c71e9c59c4c5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"advisor_tesim":["John Weagraff"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Deborah J Pope-Lance"],"publisher_tesim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Malpractice"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Difficulties commonly experienced by ministers who serve in the aftermath of predecessors' misconduct are described. The ministerial relationship is identified as the locus of these difficulties and as the essential tool of the trade in ministry. Relational patterns in the interactions of misconducting predecessors are shown to generate a process by which the integrity of ministerial relationships deteriorates rendering subsequent ministries predictably difficult. Drawing on relational theory and studies of effective ministers, a model of relational competence is constructed and an ethical standard articulated. Case material illustrates the healing capacity of afterpastors' relational competence to restore integrity to ministerial relationship."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133956144365568,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:27:31.218Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:28:54Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:45:15Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c7477c62-f2d6-4b7d-8ad8-924daca4a634","accessControl_ssim":["d5ebfff9-5264-4be8-bc3f-0aafb6614142"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Betrayal trauma recovery hope infusion: seminar for persons affected by clergy sexual misconduct"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T11:28:53Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:51:21Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["90d0ba11-708a-4c77-b000-ad34c2209d15"],"hasLease_ssim":["1048f9c2-d036-4bf8-a548-08b9b2bb84e1"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Leroy A Solomon"],"year_tesim":["2007"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gail L Campbell-Klinesmith"],"publisher_tesim":["Ashland Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Malpractice","Psychic trauma","Sex crimes","Psychotherapy"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project's purpose was to develop recovery materials for persons affected by clergy sexual misconduct and have those materials evaluated by members of a holiness movement who had experienced that betrayal trauma.
