Therefore, a pastor's life and ministry without authentic spirituality leads to burnout. To nourish and enrich spirituality requires discipline and direction. The formation of spirituality, although intensely personal, often requires both difficult self-struggle and professional guidance.  Therefore, pastors need spiritual development to overcome situations of potential burnout. The purpose of the survey was to determine the level of stress and burnout in the pastors' lives.  The survey revealed that generally pastors are very satisfied with their calling as pastors, but they also revealed the pastors' strong proclivity to ignore wife and family, and to deny any possible warning signs of stress and burnout. Using formative evaluative research, seven steps in developing the model included one initial implementation, plus evaluations and revisions.  The final model includes a description of the brief assessment process and criteria on which to base the clergy assessment.  Findings supported, but did not prove, the usability and effectiveness of the model.
