Research was conducted through a combination of questionnaires and personal interviews with pastors within the Gastonia district.  Additionally, interviews were conducted with persons in various positions of responsibility within conference hierarchy. The resulting recommendations for the local church, the annual conference and the pastor are intended to enhance the pastor's health and ability to continue in relationship with the congregation. This project reviews the care needed and received by ministers experiencing a forced resignation and presbytery's provision of care during such an event.  The emotional, spiritual, physical, and financial dynamics of a minister experiencing a forced resignation are explored. The pastoral care provided by a presbytery for its member-ministers during such a trauma is examined in light of a model of pastoral support developed by Lloyd Rediger.
