By looking at their personal lifestyles, their study habits, their devotional lives, and their sermon styles, a series of practical, timeless principles is developed that can be applied to the ministry of the twentieth-century pastor. Goals included: to determine attitudes of parishioners towards pastoral visitation; to analyze the pastor's role in visitation; and to evaluate referrals made after visits.  The biblical, theological, and historical foundations of pastoral visitation were examined. The program of visitation was described and results analyzed. A multiple church staff is called to model what it means to be Christ's body by exibiting unity, equality, and interdependence.  The challenge is that multiple staff relationships are problematic in many churches.  This study maintains that a multiple staff can fulfill this calling by becoming a shared-responsibility team. Nine United Methodist congregations ranging from 500 to 999 members were studied.
