The analysis of institutional codependency on the relationship between a pastor and his church is the major focus of this project. Could the senior pastor by mentoring staff and leaders move the church toward a more missional way of being a church? The author developed a curriculum and a process to train and develop missional leaders in the church. The process included classroom work and actual missional experiences in the community. In many faith communities, these types of clerics have been preferred because of their resemblance to everyday people. The purpose of this project is to reframe or present differently definitions of what bivocational clergy and ministries look like through analysis of denominational and local church statistical data, archival documents, and participant interviews. Through this study the author challenged they current common definitions of what it means and looks like to be bivocational; suggesting that these definitions complicate the possibility of developing sustained, healthy, whole and holistic ministries because they ultimately cheapen the value of ministry. It is a very important question to Korean churches, because Korean churches have usually been led by a pastoral group. Another impact on the churches is servant leadership. Servant leadership is very close to the image of the pastor in Korean culture. The ministry paradigm is transferring from a vertical and hierarchical structure of ministry to a horizontal structure including the laity. By using a grounded theory approach,  the researcher set out to discover the skills necessary for a pastor to develop in order to create and sustain an innovative environment within his or her leadership team and church. The model is designed to engage church in society in ways which create a more effective church. Through qualitative research and considering the ministries of two illustrious, great African-American preachers, the dissertation demonstrates that congregational involvement in society increases church effectiveness, regardless of whether the style of ministry is priestly, as with Dr. J.H. Jackson, or prophetic, as was that of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The creation of an effective church in its fullness is, of course, a long-term assessment. The literature review examined the differences in the positions of church administrator and executive pastor and the changes in leadership style of those who moved from one position to another position higher on the organizational chart.
