Participating clergy recommended that a core course in sexual ethics should be included in all ministerial training programs and that seminars or programs should be initiated to assist ministers already in pastoral practice. New and transferring pastors should be screened for potential sexual difficulties and should be asked to participate in an orientation process. After considering biblical teaching on human sexuality, marriage, and family from an evangelical perspective, the project studies the morality of spiritual leaders in ancient Israel and the apostolic church. In order to understand why contemporary spiritual leaders succumb to sexual temptation, the project investigates the character of contemporary society, the contributions of contemporary psychology, and the marriages of these leaders, drawing on surveys of contemporary marriage and family life conducted by Christianity Today Institute (1992), Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (1994), and the project survey of pastors in the United Baptist Convention of the Atlantic Provinces (1995). Psychological insights also inform an effort to determine why some women become victims of sexual misbehavior by spiritual leaders. The course compared research on corporate reward systems with rewards and punishments in the Bible.  Rewards are weak motivators but strong in communicating values.  Values espoused by not rewarded are not seen as valuable. Values-in-use are values that are supported by rewards whether espoused or not.  The leaders' evaluation of how well their reward system supports their espoused values did not change significantly. It was hypothesized that a change in orientation would occur in midlife, precipitated by a crisis and that change would occur in three stages: rule-following/conforming, rule-dismissing/questioning and value-realizing/integrating. Two studies were performed with 62 male ministers.  An attitude survey demonstrated no difference in the ethical orientation by age or denomination but self-reports of midlife crisis were significantly related to the questioning stage. It uses the Defining Issues Test designed by James Rest of the University of Minnesota as an instrument.  The research finds no persons operating at post-conventional stages and 95.5 percent at the conventional stages.  Average P score is 52.3.  The author believes that the results would be similar in most institutions.
