The program was sponsored by the Northern Wisconsin District of the former American Lutheran Church. The thesis was a response to two questions: who ministers to our clergy? where does the caregiver go to receive care? The Mentor Project had four design facets: a mentor who was available to clergy; spiritual retreats; colleague groups; and fellowship groups. The key to this project was the provision of mentors. The pilot Mentor Project was a proven program which met the self-care needs of clergy participants. Outcome evaluation instruments were used to measure the accomplishment of program goals and program effectiveness."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128896778797056,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:07:06.231Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:27:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:21:38Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"cd56ad0e-a04a-4389-b96c-062783c43c66","accessControl_ssim":["5d775e97-1583-4639-b949-3c4c9302480e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Caring for caregivers: a study of congregational support for pastors"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:27:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:01:38Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["de25b77f-5f2d-47a6-a2b0-feed2ec8a867"],"hasLease_ssim":["ff2c2ba1-5ba8-47ce-8082-5ef57a345b92"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["University of Dubuque"],"advisor_tesim":["John S Baird"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Robert W Lueck"],"publisher_tesim":["University of Dubuque Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Psychology","Clergy","Laity"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Pastors themselves have a need for regular pastoral care and nurture. The local church, which is called to minister both to the world and to its own members, can and should minister to its pastors as well as its members. The project design around which this study is built involved a four to six-month series of meetings and reflection by local church support committees. Using a manual, which is included in the thesis, the committees reviewed the four primary relationships which exist between the local church and its pastor. The pastor is a leader, colleague, employee and friend to the church and its members. The committees and pastors involved in the study reported growth in areas of support, intimacy, and in understanding of the spoken and unspoken expectations for church leaders."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129815317741568,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:21:42.218Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:26:46Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:00:23Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a6ba4a14-4eb7-466a-9340-68134d652bb0","accessControl_ssim":["15cb5fb9-33ea-4567-816c-a029ca887fff"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Women experiencing ministerial burnout: becoming a 'new creation' through finding one's voice"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:26:45Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:58:18Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9e0b73e5-1fc3-4a85-9dfc-7fdc205b6c73"],"hasLease_ssim":["301a1fdb-ea6d-4453-9aa6-134920d1f272"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["A J Van Den Blink"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Mary B Wehner"],"publisher_tesim":["Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Clergy--Psychology","Women clergy","Women","Feminist psychology","Psychology","Burn out (Psychology)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This dissertation on ministerial burnout presents a dialogue between the discipline of biblical studies and feminist psychology. Four categories of brokenness--divisiveness, arrogance, idolatry, and hardness of heart--gleaned through exegesis of Paul's letters to the Corinthians and the Ephesians are explored. Five ways of knowing for women--'silence,' as well as 'received,' 'procedural,' 'subjective,' and 'constructivist' knowing--attributed to Mary Belenky and her research group are considered. The methodology of the praxis circle, including the movements of formation, event, self-interest, theological assumptions, social science assumptions, and new praxis, is employed. Ten stories based on interviews are presented. Implications for pastoral counselors working with women experiencing ministerial burnout include the relevance of Paul's categories and Belenky's ways of knowing, the appropriateness of 'mending brokenness' as an image of reconciliation and the importance of storytelling in 'finding one's voice'."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128477291773952,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:00:26.177Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:10:22Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:55:32Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"48708a95-cfc6-46ce-b76f-6c7105cca309","accessControl_ssim":["190df9e7-cc84-4994-9810-d84943322e35"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Pastors' countertransference in relation to a difficult church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T02:10:21Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:15:23Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["be2833a3-c520-4158-b786-b8431ebbae9b"],"hasLease_ssim":["7bb5d2cd-54d9-416f-bd52-08ffa41efd59"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Boston University"],"advisor_tesim":["Merle R Jordan"],"year_tesim":["1992"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Wayne Kendall"],"publisher_tesim":["Boston University School of Theology"],"subject_tesim":["Countertransference (Psychology)","Clergy--Psychology"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["When a pastor finds that a particular church is bothering him/her more than usual, he/she may be caught in countertransference, in addition to the fact that the church is difficult. The aim, through individual interviews of pastors and a group session, was to determine if there is a recreation of family of origin issues by the pastor while interacting with the church. The conclusion is that there is strong evidence of the unconscious projection, onto the difficult church, of pastors' personality dynamics, developed in relation to their family of origin and triggered by the personality dynamics of the church.
