A questionnaire was disseminated and the results indicate that spiritual vitality is considered essential to doing the job of a Christian Navy Medicine chaplain.  The overwhelming majority of participants also indicated that practicing time management and self-care are extremely important. A case study was made of ten New Zealand Open Brethren churches that were experiencing healthy numerical growth. It cannot be assumed that the pastor has completed his development, but further intentional effort must be pursued. This project developed a lesson plan for pastors in a small group setting which defined spiritual development, established three biblical elements of spiritual development and its theological foundation. The author researched the theoretical, sociological, theological, and biblical perspectives of spirituality with application. Also, the author presented diverse exercises to implement for spiritual development and incentives for engaging the process.
