Drawing upon biblical theology, the practices of the early church, the experience and practice of 18 churches and prayer ministries notable for their example and influence, the study examines principles for developing sustained, faith-filled prayer ministry. There has been decline in prayer among American Christians due to distractions, theological misconceptions, and diminished expectancy, and these trends undermine the transformative power of the American Church. Through a review of Scripture, early Church Fathers, and contemporary best practices, the project emphasizes the indispensable role of prayer in individual and corporate life. The work proposes a biblically grounded and practically applicable model of prayer ministry tailored for evangelical and charismatic churches, incorporating structured teaching, consistent practice, and especially leadership example. Data from the author’s home church Family Christian Center of Munster, IN, including prayer meeting participation and documented answered prayers, demonstrates the effectiveness of such a model. Ultimately, this project advocates for the pastoral leadership to champion a culture of expectant prayer, positioning the Church as a prophetic community that partners with God in shaping history through intercession."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["admin_set/default-default-approving","admin_set/default-default-depositing","admin_set/default-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Default Admin Set"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["dminadmin@tiu.edu"],"_version_":1832296904363343872,"timestamp":"2025-05-16T16:54:57.722Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2025-04-23T02:34:06Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-02T20:42:30Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"726e4c07-72b4-4127-83ca-15af69d20550","accessControl_ssim":["3b7a8737-e4c9-432c-9298-74a7b0b91c71"],"hasRelatedMediaFragment_ssim":["1c9c5cf5-237b-498e-b17c-84c9fe623bb6"],"hasRelatedImage_ssim":["1c9c5cf5-237b-498e-b17c-84c9fe623bb6"],"depositor_ssim":["abidah.ali@ctschicago.edu"],"depositor_tesim":["abidah.ali@ctschicago.edu"],"title_tesim":["Nurturing Faith: The Role of Female Scholarship in Muslim Women's Spiritual Growth"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2025-04-23T02:34:06Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-07-02T20:42:30Z","isPartOf_ssim":["admin_set/default"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f9e06b38-1c15-4d07-97f6-df086710ddbe"],"hasLease_ssim":["128dc3a9-64b6-49ea-aff8-eb46202f9df5"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"degree_tesim":["Master of Arts"],"discipline_tesim":["Islamic Studies"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Chicago Theological Seminary"],"department_tesim":["Bayan Islamic Graduate School"],"year_tesim":["2025"],"resource_type_tesim":["Thesis","Research Paper"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ali, Abidah "],"keyword_tesim":["Mosque clergy","Islamic education","Women ","Community building","Leadership","American Muslims ","Educational morality","Spirituality","Education","Women's mentorship","Spiritual modeling"],"subject_tesim":["Religion--Study and teaching","Islam","Faith","Religious ethics","Congregations","Women clergy","Women in religion","Communities--Religious aspects","Spirituality","Interpersonal relations","Religious education","Psychology and religion","Clergy--Religious life"],"abstract_tesim":["This study explores the historical role of female scholarship in Sunni Islam, emphasizing the necessity of direct interaction between women and female scholars for their holistic religious and spiritual development. From Islam’s inception, female scholars have played a crucial role in nurturing women’s religious identity and spiritual connection. However, today in the American Muslim community, the presence of female scholars and spiritual guides remains largely absent in most local communities, limiting opportunities for women to access religious mentorship and leadership. By examining two historical female scholarly archetypes—their early lives, teaching methods, and approaches to spiritual modeling—this analysis identifies the factors that granted them religious authority while also exploring the diversity in their educational, cultural, and social strategies to enhance religious connectedness among women and their communities. The study is underpinned by the framework of Spiritual Modeling by Doug Osman and Carl Thoresen, along with Syed Attas’s Islamic Education model, which exemplify the necessity of interpersonal relationships between teachers and students, fostering women’s spiritual growth through modeling. By analyzing historical practices, this research addresses these contemporary realities of female religious authority. The study concludes with recommendations for institutions to better engage and support local female scholars and learned women, ultimately aiming to strengthen women’s spiritual identity and communal belonging. The thesis begins with exploring the social contexts of The Salvation Army, North American clergy, and working mothers. The thesis progresses to delve into John 15:1-17 and the historical examples of Susanna Wesley and Catherine Booth. The research methodology includes two Lenten-abiding groups and thirteen interviews. This research affirms how rhythms of life tend to the soil of the soul, enabling an abiding relationship with Jesus to grow and flourish."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31bd5819-b5a3-4928-96d5-b581f38b637b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799720799184093184,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T03:11:42.884Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:05:12Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:52:45Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"3d89ef44-6d72-4ffa-9ec0-638a28bc1a97","accessControl_ssim":["99bedc02-902b-4eec-a479-0dbdd118c4b4"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Connectional spirituality : small church pastors and the future of the church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T20:05:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2025-12-18T18:46:58Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["df48b91f-479b-4b72-ae47-f6efcebde4ef"],"hasLease_ssim":["dcdc2667-8ffc-41a7-b996-728dde84aecf"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["DMin"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"year_tesim":["2019"],"video_embed_tesim":[""],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. It is my goal to examine their spiritual lives by looking at the way they influence their congregations to live as followers of Christ. In addition, it is my contention that by engaging a deep practice of spiritual discipline a pastor's call is clarified and guided by the Holy Spirit into ways that produce a type of living that I am calling 'connectional spirituality.' To do this the project utilizes a review of relevant literature and past trends of thought, interviews with fifteen small church pastors serving the Susquehanna Conference of The United Methodist Church and my personal experience as a small church pastor and spiritual director of small church pastors. This study finds that pastors who engage regularly in spiritual practices find themselves leading their congregation to act as a type of mission outpost in their community. Through the interviews, I discovered that the more engaged a pastor was with spiritual practices; the more likely they were to lead in ways that lifted up those in the community surrounding the church as the ones God calls them to serve. This seems to be one very significant way in which small churches can be revitalized and become passionate, vital communities of Christ. Through this, I was led to explore the importance of being a missional church and the ways that this type of connectional spirituality grows from both spiritual practice and being formed in the image of Christ, leading pastors and churches to embody connectedness in their community."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"identifier_tesim":["http://archive.lancasterseminary.edu/items/show/385"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Lancaster Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["77231467-10ce-4737-858a-8cc38e70a4f9"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1851873260846710784,"timestamp":"2025-12-18T18:52:46.109Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":91,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
