In examining the culture of diocesan priests in the US since 1965, the project finds two dominant identity metaphors--priest-as-mediator and priest-as-minister--and traces their historical roots through a series of 'flash points.' This survey model invited fourteen district superintendents across the connection to claim the underlying spiritual power available to them in a ministry of administration. Results of the surveys show that district superintendents desire a disciplined spiritual life.  The shape of that spiritual formation will differ from one individual to the next. The research methodology was guided interviews in the Norontario area of the BCOQ and questionnaires in the Hermosa area.  The number one single priority need in almost every demographic category was personal spiritual development.
