This project used a series of workshops to educate clergy about spouse abuse.  In the workshops the clergy learned about the characteristics and personalities of both victim and perpetrator.  The workshop examined their knowledge of spouse abuse.  Most clergy are not equipped to minister to victims or perpetrators. The reflective method of Whitehead and Whitehead in their book, 'Method in Ministry,' provides the format and structure for the work.  In the chapter dealing with tradition, the author portrays the history and development of internship among North American Lutheran theological educators.  Under culture, the theory of cognitive dissonance and a systemic method of pastoral care are related to internship supervision.  Under experience, the author probes his own history of field education supervision. Monthly seminars were used to impart information and the catalyst for transforming facts into action was a weekly peer group meeting. The objective data, gathered before and after the project, and church assessments, preproject compared with postproject data, revealed the project to be successful.  The subjective data was not conclusive. A questionnaire was designed to gather information regarding the pastors' experiences and needs in their counseling ministry.  A learning design was created to address those needs.  Twenty pastors enrolled in the fourteen, three-hour training sessions.  The pastors' positive response and evaluation indicated a need for such training. Included in the training program are a two and one-half day seminar for church planters and their spouses, and a twelve-unit curriculum taught by the church planters to their respective core groups.  The researcher used a Likert Scale, and objective test, key informant field interviews, and field observations to evaluate the training program. The method of study was to develop and implement a seminar for pastors serving in the local parish.  Initially consisting of four core segments (crisis intervention, brief pastoral counseling, daily relationships with parishioners, and the pastor's own self-understanding) the content of the seminar was significantly adapted based on preliminary interviews with 130 pastors, 5 seminary professors, and 15 staff members of PC\u0026CC of Greater Washington. The study examined combat experiences, vocational choices, depth relationships, and current ministry settings.  Results showed strong relationship between encounters with death or shattering of values and decisions to enter ministry. Results showed strong relational stability and hearing of posttraumatic stress disorder.
