Most of the study focuses twelve such pastors in Alabama with advanced degrees from various theological seminaries. In the course of the author reading literature, conducting interviews, writing the dissertation and reflecting upon his own experiences, it was clear to him that seminaries, local churches and conventions must play a part in responding to the needs of these pastors. The content explores four spiritual disciplines--silence, solitude, prayer and contemplation.  Each discipline is examined by integrating biblical insights with themes synthesized from writers representing Evangelical, Roman Catholic, and Jewish traditions. The selected pastors were asked to fill out a five-page survey about their own personal and professional development practices.  The author reviewed the biblical/theological data regarding the New Testament role of pastor/teacher. The author then conducted a brief survey of the personal and professional practices of past Christian leaders. The subjects were the pastors of churches that were visited and where conferences were attended as part of the 2001-2002 Beeson Pastor Program of Asbury Theological Seminary. The findings of this research suggest that mentoring makes an important contribution to the development of pastors. Six research questions were designed from the study of the precedent literature in the field. The thesis also describes how the Kvalificerad Fortbildning Predikan, KFP, came into being and how the cooperation with ACTS was developed.  At the end of the thesis there is a reflection on the author's own training for the ordained ministry in the Church of Sweden during the 1980s, and how profoundly he was influenced by the KFP and his stay in Chicago during the summer of 2003.  At the very end of the thesis there are three sermons by the author preached from the fall of 2003 and to March 2004. In reaching the goals of the CORE paradigm training program, I will integrate biblical, theological, and psychological concepts.
