While the STEP program (Study Training for Effective Pastoral Ministry) through Eastern Mennonite University is helpful to acquaint bivocational pastors, there is a need for additional training for preaching that fits into the busy STEP bivocational pastor's schedule. Biblical research was conducted providing theological rationale and background information allowing pastors to see how a first-person narrative sermon is constructed.  The author reviewed literature germane to the subject.  A project was developed to take pastors through the process of understanding the problem and creating a solution.  A workshop was presented to a group of pastors and written feedback was received. Using a combined approach that incorporated what was learned from a survey of pastors and what was learned from personal study, a three-month reading program was prepared. Four expository sermons were preached, utilizing what was gleaned from the reading program. Surveys were administered to six members of the researcher's parish after each preached sermon. During the first phase of the project, its director researched the topic in order to provide content for a workshop intended to equip a selected group of Georgia Baptist pastors with revival preparation skills. The second phase included developing the workshop curriculum. The third phase was the implementation of the actual five-session workshop. Session 1 required two hours, and sessions 2 through 5 met for ninety minutes. The focus was on initiating and developing pastor support groups, as well as training and implementing a peer coaching network among pastors which seemed to be the best strategy for building biblical community. To prepare for the project I researched appropriate literature and established four pastor support groups that met for six months. Fifteen pastors were in the initial pastor support groups.  In addition, I enlisted six pastors to be trained as mentor coaches from which to launch a peer coaching network which now has eighteen ministers engaged. All the pastor support groups have chosen to continue meeting over the next six months. Throughout the Scriptures and the history of the Christian church, God has revealed his heart for rural people and places. The purpose of this praxis was to encourage and equip pastors for effective rural ministry through biblical, historical, and practical reflection. A group of eight rural pastors participated in a series of four one-hour workshops and a one-hour discussion session. The director was able to assess the value of the praxis through questionnaires and a discussion forum. Session topics included an introduction to personal wellness, developing physical wellness, developing spiritual wellness, developing relational wellness, and developing emotional wellness. Workshop participants discovered an appreciation for the value of developing personal wellness. The workshop enabled them to evaluate their physical, spiritual, relational, and emotional health strategies. A review of leadership, adult learning and cultural change literature, semi-structured open-ended interviews and a focus group provided data that was analyzed using Grounded Theory to identify five essential leadership qualities and competencies. Equipping in four of these proved to reduce the gap. Among the key findings: the existence of a gap was confirmed and leadership qualities were deemed more important than competencies.
