The sessions were held during eight weeks with two hours per session consisting of lectures, Power Point presentations, experiential exercises, and journaling. The six participants were assessed through pre- and post-test consisting of a Likert scale instrument as well as open-ended questions.  The transformation process in the six participants' was assessed following the eight-week sessions. Chapter 1 outlines the purpose, goals, context, rationale, and research methodology. Chapter 2 provides the biblical rationale for emphasizing the local church in training men for future pastoral ministry. Exodus 24:13 provides a biblical example of on-the-job training of a future leader in Israel. Second Timothy 2:2 is a New Testament description of local church pastors being directly involved in developing future pastors. New Testament ecclesiology is also examined by defining the church, understanding the universal church, and arguing for the primacy of the local church. Implications from Exodus 24:13, 2 Timothy 2:2, and New Testament ecclesiology conclude the chapter. Chapter 3 examines secular parallels and modern church models that balance the academic and practical training of pastors. This chapter discuses the background, needs, benefits, content, and challenges of various secular fields making use of intentional internships to train future leaders. The chapter also includes the rationale for and one example of a church centered model of training future pastors. Chapters 4 and 5 present the specifics of the ministry project. Organization of the evaluating professor, intern, Lay Evaluation Team, preaching assignments, sermon evaluations, and weekly meetings with the overseeing pastor are described. Also explained is the pre-evaluation/post-evaluation congregational questionnaire. The hypothesis was that associate ministers lacked mentoring and training in the area of ministry. To accomplish this goal, five instructional classes were taught on mentoring and training for associate ministers. Pre- and post-test results of the instructional classes showed that the associate ministers were untrained and improperly mentored. Six sermons on personal relationship with God, uniqueness in Christ, commitment to the church, and hope for the future of the church, were prepared and preached. The select members were given evaluations to determine the extent to which they perceived these sermons to effect specific aspects of spiritual formation. The writer advocates a trifocal hermeneutical method (analysis, synthesis, and application). An application worksheet for pastors to develop sermon application from Old Testament narratives is presented. The process utilizes four steps: investigation, significance, transformation, and enablement. Experiential evidence suggested that ministers do not discuss these issues because of lack of medical knowledge. A booklet covering ethical process, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intubation and mechanical ventilation, artificial nutrition and hydration, antibiotic usage, and comfort measures was written to educate ministers. The booklet was evaluated through a pre- and post-seminar questionnaire. The evaluations determined that understanding of end of life issues improved by 45% after the participants took the seminar.
