The project included a quantitative and qualitative pre-test, post-test design that assessed knowledge, and awareness of the formational counseling model. The pre-test assessment showed students had little knowledge of formal counseling. Upon completing the semester long class, administering the post- test assessment revealed the success of this project. Some 150 D.Min. graduates of these institutions rated twenty-six leadership characteristics (taken from the example of the life of the Aposte Paul) as to their importance as qualities of a church leader annd the perceived effect their training had toward developing them. The seminar focuses on the utilization of the Ladder of Abstraction in deriving a timeless principle from a biblical text. Biblical application is authoritative application. The major premise of this work is that preachers should go through a process of theological principlization in validating their applications. Exposition demands authoritative application. Authoritative application comes only from the author's intent. The need for this thesis became apparent through bibliographic research which revealed limited works covering the process of principlization. Chapter two affirms the need to principlize and the validity of the method. The author explored and evaluated a diverse sample of theological schools to help assess current training and to give clues for an improved model of spiritual leadership education for the ministry. In a workshop setting participants explored four concepts of strategic planning: 1) shaping direction, 2) inspiring commitment 3) developing supportive relationships, and 4) facilitating change.
