It was based on the theological affirmations that true preaching extends the work of the Incarnation; that worship provides experiences including: providence, faith, grace, repentance, communion, vocation, and an awareness of the holy; and that the thrust of all pastoral work, including preaching, is the communication of the love and acceptance of God.  Ten people met for an hour each Sunday, discussed the sermon and reviewed the Scripture for the next week.  A feedback form was given to the congregation each week.  The results were more effective communication, better constructed sermons, and more effective integration of preaching and pastoral care. It attempts to interpret selected concepts from communications system theory and neuro-linguistic programming which are applied within the context of such church functions as administration, pastoral care, preaching, and problem resolution.  Forty-four church persons were involved in this field testing, through eight workshops in Rhode Island and New York.  Prior to each session each participant read that part of the manual which was to be considered and applied the concepts in the manual through discussion and the playing of focused communicational games at the end of each chapter. Throughout the project report informal observations have been made relative to the field testing process, and the relevance of that process to communication in the church. 'Sharing' takes place when an individual member of the congregation relates to the congregation an event he deems spiritually significant.  Personal sharing requires a greater degree of self-disclosure and transparency than impersonal sharing. When utilized, feedback can also enrich preaching. Following the examination of the components and phases of the process of communication, this dissertation describes the nature and role of feedback in modifying sermon content and delivery, identifies the sources, bases, and forms of acquiring feedback to preaching, and tests and evaluates some methods for acquiring feedback from a small group within a congregational setting.  Included are the procedure followed in organizing the feedback group and the steps in the development and utilization of feedback forms. In both contexts, that of mysticism and that of psychotherapy, paradoxes are set up in such a fashion that significant life change becomes possible for the mystical seeker/therapy client.  The process of change that is initiated by paradoxes is described using the models of the respective fields.
