It is the author's belief that the key to the revitalization of the church, spiritual and numerical, is effective evangelism. Yet in most local churches evangelism is not taught or practiced, given little or no financial support, and in many cases discouraged by pastors and denominational hierarchy. Through this Doctor of Ministry project Pastor Tom Vencuss developed and implemented a program of evangelism designed to develop a greater understanding of, and desire to do, evangelism within a mainline congregation. It uses the Pro-Active Research Method as an evaluative tool. John Wesley United Methodist Church is a small (100 member) church with an average age membership of 65. This plan was marginally successful. The pastor was moved before being able to fully realize the results of the plan. Following a careful statistical account of this local church's steady decline, the author traces, through interviews, the changing attitude of the church members as they encounter multicultural ministry. Furthermore, in recounting church members' reflections upon the diversity of God's Kingdom with his own, the author challenges prejudice and conservative attitudes from fresh angles.
