So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord-who is the Spirit-makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. (2 Corinth, 3:17-18, NLT )The process of spiritual formation can be seen throughout all of scripture; men and women, growing in faith, learning to truly love God, themselves and God's people. There is something so special to be on this journey of faith with a loving, laughing, growing group of Christians as we learn to be mature, committed, faith-filled people of God. This project endeavored to take the leaders of Via Faith Community through a five week spiritual formation process, hoping to create a higher functioning, more spiritually mature leadership team. This goal was accomplished by pastors writing about the extreme conflicts which occurred in their congregations. A series of statements provided each pastor a framework for their story. These conflict stories were compiled into a study guide meant to help pastors and congregations discuss extreme conflict in a preventative manner. The researcher used biblical principles from Romans 14-16 to address the root problems of judging and despising. Professional goals for the project included increasing knowledge and understanding of interpersonal conflict and increasing knowledge and skills in adult instructional theory and practice. The project director researched biblical texts and interpersonal conflict. She selected six sets of skills including leadership, communication, biblical resolution, forgiveness, calming response and dealing with antagonists. A group of 15 assembled for a ten-week class that met for an hour each week to study scripture, conflict theory, and to create a member covenant for the Glenwood Church of Christ establishing the expectation of behavior during times of disagreement. This practicum equipped the members well in scripture, theory, and practice for handling congregational conflict well.
