Utilizing qualitative and quantitative methods including ethnographic research, interviews and a survey, this research project addresses the Church’s deficiency by developing a biblical, theological, and pastoral resource for members of the Uniontown church of Christ so that its members might better navigate matters associated with the reception, or non-reception, of an earthly inheritance. It describes how I changed from an agnostic to a Christian and from a worldly leader to a servant leader. To do so, it combines three documents written during my DMin: my Leadership Narrative, my Philosophy of Christian Leadership, and my Project Report. Each of these tells part of the story of my growth. During my studies, my skills as a marketplace missionary, coaching mentor, business consultant, and leadership instructor developed a great deal, which gave me the confidence and courage I needed to introduce a new paradigm of Christian development to my Korean Canadian community. To achieve this purpose, I studied resilience and began my research project, which sought to answer the question, “Can I design a process that will help Korean leaders develop their resilience?” The Project Report describes how I tried to do so. Six executive leaders at three Korean non-profit organizations in Toronto participated in the project. Case Study Research was my primary methodology, which allowed me to discover each individual participant’s experiences as they went through the resilience training. Both qualitative and quantitative analysis were used to determine the findings, outcomes, and interpretations of this project. This workshop included skill presentations and opportunities for case study applications. Chapter 1 presents the history and ministry context of Connection Point Church and the goal of this project. Chapter 2 provides an exegesis of three primary passages of Scripture (2 Cor 5:18-21; Eph 4:31–5:2; Matt 18:21-35) to show that every Christian can experience the healing and freedom offered in the gospel and be empowered to extend kindness and forgiveness toward the person who sinned against them. Chapter 3 explores the history of interpersonal forgiveness and demonstrates the unique gospel-centered approach of this project. Chapter 4 describes the project itself, recounting the content and preaching methodology of the specific sermon series and take-home work. Chapter 5 evaluates the project's efficacy based on the completion of the specified goals. Suburban, homogeneous,minority-led churches are an oasis and a safe-haven for ethnic minorities who relocatefrom urban centers. Yet, as outposts of Christ’s kingdom, these churches are charged withthe responsibility of reaching across ethnic lines to make disciples of all nationsbeginning with the neighborhood in which the congregation worships. The assumptionthat leading a homogeneous congregation to diversify is the same regardless of thechurch’s location and the ethnicity of its pastor ignores the long history of race relationsin America. Minority pastors who lead suburban, ethnically homogeneous churches needkey leadership qualities to diversify their congregations.Through semi-structured interviews with nine African American pastors fromdifferent denominations and different regions of the United States, this qualitative studyconcluded that biblical conviction, cultural competence, conflict resolution skill, andemotional intelligence are key leadership qualities necessary for diversifying suburban,ethnically homogeneous, minority-led congregations.This dissertation is divided into five sections. The first section provides arationale for this study and explains the significance of the project given the novelty ofthe topic and the lack of specific research on the topic. The second section discusses therelevant literature concerning biblical conviction, cultural competence, conflict resolutionskill, and emotional intelligence. The third section describes the research procedure,offers a justification for using in-depth interviews as the preferred research method, andaddresses the limitations of the study. The fourth section of this dissertation presents theresults from the interviews which substantiate and confirm the project’s hypotheses. Each unit contains a group discussion guide.The first three study units present a biblical perspective on diversity of opinion in the church. Unit one is an investigation of diversity in the New Testament church designed to demonstrate that a romanticized conception of the early years of the Christian era as a time of uncomplicated unity and undisturbed unanimity of opinion is inconsistent with the testimony of the biblical material. Unit two is an examination of New Testament unity 'in Christ.'  Unit three is a presentation of the strategies, attitudes, and skills necessary to promote the celebration of diversity of opinion in the local church.The second set of three study units presents a psychological explanation for diversity in the church based on the personality type theory of Carl G. Jung. Unit four contains an introduction to Jung and his type theory, style, and religious attitude. Unit five is a detailed explication of psychological type.  Unit six offers descriptions of the sixteen psychological types isolated by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.The final three study units present applications of psychological type theory to three areas of significant diversity in the church. Unit seven addresses differences in worship and prayer styles. Unit eight investigates different approaches to biblical interpretation.
