The action component included twenty-two members who represented more than ten faith backgrounds all coming together in six dialogue sessions.  They shared their responses based on the content of the preached message on a given Sunday. Research was done into the theological basis for dealing with conflict.  Literature as well as in-person interviews of Unitarian historians were used to draw a record of how Unitarians and Universalists have dealt with conflicts in the past.  Extensive use of personal interviews was employed to gather information from leaders, lay and clergy, of the congregations targeted for the study. There is an evaluation of techniques used to nurture people as they experience and respond to transition in their congregations. Typologies offer a structured way to analyze a congregation's identity.  Historical research and survey instruments create a way to evalute a congregation's identity. Workshops on past, present, and future, along with group discussions, develop a congregation's identity. The results of the study show that congregations can create an accepted body of knowledge about themselves.  In conclusion, this project provides a provisional paradigm for developing congregational identity worthy of further
