The schedule covered nine sessions held on consecutive Sunday afternoons. The selected group consisted of fifteen believers, and each session lasted no more than two hours. The following issues were addressed: conflict as inevitable, healthy, and necessary; seven intensities of conflict; confrontation and communication; biblical peacemaking; overcoming antagonism; forgiveness and reconciliation; and conflict-readiness through the spiritual disciplines. The project goals were to research the field of conflict resolution, to develop teaching sessions to equip selected believers in conflict resolution skills, and to equip selected believers in conflict resolution skills. The number who actually become involved and active members is a small percentage of the visitors who come each Sunday morning. The main consideration is not the number of visitors, but the number of regular attendees who choose involvement and membership or leaving the church. Visitors will continue to come to see what the church might hold for their particular needs and interests. However, assimilation does or does not occur most commonly among those who have begun regular attendance and seek either to deeper in their involvement or turn back and perhaps leave. Specially adapted questionnaires and interview instruments yielded results that are recorded and analyzed in the course of this study. Suggestions are made as to steps how church leaders might take to incorporate and assimilate individuals into service, ministry, and greater membership involvement. The formula of Worship, Instruction, Fellowship, and Evangelism (WIFE) is encouraged as a modus operandi for the Bride of Christ in this local setting."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131645965762560,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:50:48.059Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:03Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:40:17Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5c63f862-def4-4631-9e1e-e441fc7ce73e","accessControl_ssim":["a907fd05-8007-4730-8ae2-7536fc5a7977"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The evangelical pastor as agent of redemptive and collaborative change in a mainline church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T15:01:02Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:50:53Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["1d932a7b-c3c1-4bb3-97c3-a6b6e75a2715"],"hasLease_ssim":["4371120c-e473-4977-8741-cda0da6efb4e"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stephen A Macchia"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Randall J Forester"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict","Congregations, Protestant"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Religions","Congregations","St Paul's Community Church (Chicora, Pa)","Federated churches","St Paul's Congregational Church (Rural Valley, Pa)","United Church of Christ","Church renewal--Protestant churches"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This thesis focuses on how the pastor aligns a congregation with the will of God by coming alongside them and reminding them of their story and place within God's plan. This thesis-project shows how changes were made to the session of a PC(USA) congregation to attempt to improve effectiveness, and a policy manual growing from that experience was disseminated to other church leaders for their opinions. The researcher presents a theological motivation for churches to pursue changes in the leadership structure of the session. After examining modern and postmodern paradigms, the writer asserts that accommodations to the modern paradigm do not meet the demands and expectations of ministry in a postmodern context. The writer then proposes missional values and structures to enhance the effectiveness of the local church in the postmodern context. A detailed case study shows that these structural changes increased the effectiveness of a local church's ministry, increased the satisfaction of its leaders, fit PC(USA) polity, and could be applied with profit in other church situations."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791131917135904768,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:55:06.668Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:57:50Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:02:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"c7c66f1c-2af3-4483-8b17-c293e41e9e7a","accessControl_ssim":["9d003c3e-7bf3-4710-846a-4c8d6e78d6ea"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Moving forward: a descriptive study of the factors that make people resilient from spiritual abuse in Southern Baptist churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:57:49Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:52:05Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["847271c6-6769-4c72-8120-4fca1911f136"],"hasLease_ssim":["73affac1-4a71-4ea1-bf59-9a3a11330508"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Steven W Klipowicz"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rhett H Wilson"],"keyword_tesim":["Spiritual abuse"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["System theory","Resilience (Personality trait)","Baptists","Bible. This project studies the factors involved in the healing process of victims of spiritual abuse as well as ideas from systems theory as to what factors contribute to an abusive, toxic church. The author uses a qualitative research approach and utilizes the tools of a questionnaire and interviews with nine victims of spiritual abuse in Southern Baptist churches. The book of consolation in Isaiah is used as a biblical base for understanding a theology of hope and healing from oppressive circumstances. One outcome of this study is a change model entitled 'The process of healing from spiritual abuse' which involves the phases of oppression, transition, and restoration. The study concludes that resiliency is the outcome of healing. A person who heals will rebound with new vitality and depth in their relationship with the Lord."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132379519123456,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:02:27.631Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:57:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:38:22Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5219798a-8107-433e-a9ac-39b1a7535992","accessControl_ssim":["a2a7f7a3-3432-4e99-add1-2fb3a2cc6108"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The denominational executive and congregational conflict in Mennonite Brethren churches"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:57:17Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:32:13Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["c4298db4-907b-4f10-a046-7ee28b52cab8"],"hasLease_ssim":["44848001-41a8-49fd-bbaf-1373e4d4a536"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Rodney Cooper"],"year_tesim":["2009"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Gary M Wall"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Religions","Congregations","Mennonites--Discipline","Church controversies--Mennonites","United States Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches","Theology","Church discipline--Biblical teaching","Bible. This thesis project is designed and organized around bibliographic research, historical analysis, and descriptive research. A biblical foundation is laid, with particular attention given to an exposition of Matthew 18. An overview of church conflict is presented with a focus on an Anabaptist theological perspective. A brief historical analysis of the Mennonite Brethren movement provides the denominational context. The relevant conflict resolution literature is surveyed and a case study using retrospective methodology is provided as descriptive research."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130867049955328,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:38:25.228Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:51:38Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:26:08Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f0e9d254-819e-44bb-8b2e-b4a4573ce480","accessControl_ssim":["cee04345-f095-423e-a9bb-b8b748057728"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Increasing the participation of racial minorities in the life of the Moody Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T14:51:37Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:00:37Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["5c78a1f5-7227-45ff-b2a8-645844e9bdff"],"hasLease_ssim":["0d68cfe6-06d1-4803-9335-93f3fa08488b"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"advisor_tesim":["Peter T Cha"],"year_tesim":["2012"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["William Patrick Bertsche"],"publisher_tesim":["Trinity Evangelical Divinity School"],"subject_tesim":["Moody Memorial Church (Chicago, Ill)","Congregations","Church membership","Minorities"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Racially diverse churches are increasing in the United States but warrant further research.
