Exegetical, sociological and resultant theological debates have raged and continue to rage within both scholarly circles as well as in the local church. Sadly, those who hold a high view of Scripture find this issue more divisive, bitter, and emotional than any other. Denominational and church splits have occurred as a result of the ongoing debate over women ministering in local churches. Apologetics from any number of viewpoints abound. Yet, there is a dearth of information that provides guidance to women considering a vocational call to the 'ministry of the Word'. Among the overwhelming number of things that have been written regarding women in the pulpit, little has been written about the women themselves. This is especially true of women who have been educated in evangelical institutions and continue to their commitment to an evangelical view of Scripture. This thesis explores the characteristics that contribute to the effectiveness of evangelical women pursuing God's call to serve as preacher and pastor to the local church. It identifies the barriers with which women must be prepared to deal in the pursuit of that calling and suggests skills that should be honed as well as the character traits, aptitudes and giftedness necessary for a woman to be effective. This thesis suggests areas where a woman, pursuing the call to preach the Word of God, may evaluate her own strengths and weaknesses in light of those who have preceded her, in order to most effectively use her time in preparation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132585206743040,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:05:43.790Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:11Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T08:52:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"5bdcdc1b-f577-475e-abbd-4b14ebcde581","accessControl_ssim":["d19f1fc6-6fe2-48ed-a26e-ad1489273708"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Living into a vision: a case study of Riverview Park Reformed Church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:12:10Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T00:49:59Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["3c7836da-de6f-4cd5-ae46-3fdd76a3e29a"],"hasLease_ssim":["51d3724e-905f-43e9-b1e8-0f7abdfa20ea"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Thomas Arthur Boogaart"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Rodney D Veldhuizen"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["Western Theological Seminary (Holland, MI)"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Reformed","Church renewal--Reformed Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This is a case study of one congregation, the Riverview Park Reformed Church. The focus of the study is how the congregation moved from being a divided and conflicted community to a community that is growing and vital. This case study revealed that church revitalization is complex dynamic that requires more than a programmatic approach. Findings supported in this study are: 1) Understanding the history of both congregation and leadership is important for church health. 2) The mix of positive and negative influences that shape a congregation and its leadership and their interplay need to be understood in any process of health and revitalization. 3) The process of moving toward health is more important than the program used. 4) Before a congregation or pastor can become healthy it is imperative that both understand their past and the factors that both helped and hindered their development."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Western Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["c24f9e0f-f5f0-45a3-b7f1-6a406c6902fb"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791135532569329664,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:52:34.614Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:10:13Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:03:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"f5d54835-74de-48b4-ae3a-e83cc8800d45","accessControl_ssim":["7bbf9c0f-7033-4ef4-81c7-900218027aeb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Equipping selected leaders of the New Prospect Baptist Church, Jasper, Alabama with conflict management skills"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T10:10:12Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T05:09:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["7829596d-ff56-4f27-b9c4-34e0e3a970c5"],"hasLease_ssim":["ab755f5e-42a3-4613-b770-a0eb41e96328"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Reggie R Ogea"],"year_tesim":["2005"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Frederick W Karthaus"],"keyword_tesim":["Congregations--Internal conflict"],"publisher_tesim":["New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Leadership--Religious aspects--Christianity","New Prospect Baptist Church (Jasper, Ala)","Baptists","Congregations","Conflict management"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The purpose of this project was to equip selected leaders of the New Prospect Baptist Church of Jasper, Alabama, with conflict management skills. Group interviews following these sermons explored whether hearers reflected more deeply on the sermon and its implications for behavior.
