It also reports the results of such a pilot program in a United Methodist church in Texas in 1987. Gifts are identified as abilities, ordinary and extraordinary, which can contribute to the purpose of the church as it serves the reign of God. Many varied resources for gifts clarification are identified and analyzed. Ministries are defined as services which are rendered by all members of the church, lay and clergy, within and outside the church's gathered life. The study outlines the efforts of a gifts discovery project in a local congregation. The work of the planning team, an evaluation of their work, and an evaluation of the project are included. When combined with marketing techniques, an effective tool can be developed by a local church which takes into consideration the specific community situation. A procedure can be developed so that local church members do this themselves, if the personnel and technological tools are available. Such a product is found to work best when it focuses on the needs of newcomers, namely, when it shows a warm community of faith that is serious about its Christianity."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["5a6e4a36-5801-4bff-8e61-86d7489efb4a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791125810546999296,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T06:18:02.971Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:07:41Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:33:25Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"2359710b-c114-48bf-95ed-0376974c0c61","accessControl_ssim":["f122f6aa-37bb-4c72-ae9b-6bedc2babbeb"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Development of mission statements as a way of enhancing the ministry of local congregations"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T00:07:40Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T23:10:35Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["031d1955-d77b-42de-a7ea-7927a5a8b77d"],"hasLease_ssim":["0d0e7639-ef88-4c80-85b2-074012c560c9"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Doctor of Ministry"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Wesley Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Mark S Burrows","James C Logan"],"year_tesim":["1989"],"resource_type_tesim":["D.Min. A study series on the nature of the church and its mission, developed and implemented by the pastor, is presented to a group of laity. At a retreat the laity give formation to the statement, which receives congregational adoption. Questionnaires help analyze the laity's beliefs about the nature of the church and its mission. Since very few helpful models or institutions are likely to be available, the church, through the local congregation, must be able to offer a viable ministry of reconciliation. This project focuses first on an analysis of the circumstances which presently are contributing to the pain and separation.
