He integrated the developmental stages of Erik Erikson, James Fowler and the classical order of salvation and developed a grid that can be used descriptively and prescriptively in charting the life development of a congregation. He also added a level entitled faith dynamic which identifies the type of faith experience that becomes the major theme at specific stages of development. The author has formally and informally used the grid both as a pastor and as a consultant. The thesis is that an enlightened understanding of conflict and the development of certain communicative skills can significantly affect how the parishioner perceives conflict and thus how he or she will behave in conflictive situations thereby reducing the strained interpersonal relationships and alienation that often follows in the wake of the conflict. A conflict skills curriculum was developed for the Ardmore Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Participants were volunteers from the congregation who met weekly for a total of 8 sessions. They were tested prior to the seminar and again at the end. A control group was used for the purpose of comparison. The pastor and session proposed a hypothesis which was that the establishment of a positive sense of self-worth, which would come about as a result of better self-understanding, agreement of purpose and setting of goals, would reverse the decline. The hypothesis was measured by surveys. Visible increased activity was noted as was a stronger financial picture, as well. The validity of the hypothesis was substantiated."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Miscellaneous"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["4f3e9d5f-fc19-4d44-a264-44b56604eb9a"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791130183222165504,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:27:33.079Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:56:17Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:31:39Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"1921e1d8-c01b-4563-8498-0fd208a4c830","accessControl_ssim":["53906427-0435-480a-a98c-1a070536591d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Developing a perceptual history of Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church, Saegertown, Pennsylvania"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T22:56:16Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:51:57Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["9143cf22-c7e9-4f3f-b5a1-bbd2a58157d4"],"hasLease_ssim":["bcd18acc-649d-45e4-9133-a46683ed4758"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Gordon E Jackson"],"year_tesim":["1986"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ronald Preston Garrett"],"publisher_tesim":["Pittsburgh Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interviewing","Congregations","Lutheran Church","Process theology","Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church (Saegertown, Pa)","Church work"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["At Twelve Apostles Lutheran Church the author found impediments to ministry that seemed to arise from the history of the church. Research into the biblical, historical, and theological roots of the sacrament led to the development of a theological framework which featured the primary aspects of remembrance, proclamation, participation, and thanksgiving. This research also contributed to the planning of a study series, sermon series, and worship series which involved the congregation of First United Methodist Church, Moweaqua, Illinois, in a consideration of the sacrament's place in their faith experience. Involvement in the project by this congregation led to a broader understanding of the sacrament, an enhanced experience of it, and a willingness to commune more frequently. The research, sacramental model, project components, and conclusions explored in this paper provide a sound foundation upon which other local congregations can, and should, develop similar efforts to enhance their experience of the Lord's Supper."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["fc8e637d-6b92-421f-936e-4844dc981265"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791134448638492672,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:35:20.897Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":436,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
