A university-oriented church is an intergenerational congregation that chooses to be close to a major college or university community, including physically, socially, culturally, and spiritually, and actively engages that community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The author completed a series of interviews with leaders of churches around the United States that are focused on secular university communities. This thesis explains the need and the theological implications of pursuing and implementing. It proposes and tests a model for a dismissal process and then evaluates that model. The model proposed consists of a four stage process: discernment, negotiation, dismissal, and reception. Members of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest will be surveyed through an online questionnaire and focus groups regarding their own values and practices in philanthropy and where they believe their local church should be involved in mission. A qualitative research case study was conducted. The research concluded that pastors should be careful to listen to the heartbeat of their people. The pastor needs to become real as they live among their congregation. The extension of adolescence has received much attention, and there are indicators delayed development of adolescents significantly affects society in a number of ways: families, economies, educational institutions, and local churches. Data was collected through surveys and interviews with emerging adults. The project was organized around the three major tasks of adulthood: establishing autonomy, developing community, discovering vocation.
