An experimental method is described by which this unconscious church is revealed in a congregation. Jung's word association technique is adapted and used to test a congregational sample. Results reveal that half or more of the subjects in the sample gave significant responses to 14 out of the 100 words. Mathematically, this is more than would be expected to occur by chance. It is concluded that this pattern of 14 words demonstrates the presence of the unconscious church. Analysis of the stimulus words and the words given in response to those stimulus words reveals that this unconscious church is concerned with relationships with God and others. It evidences a struggle between good and evil, between the archetypal symbol of the hero and that of the betrayer, between the ego and the shadow. Implications for ministry are explored and applications are made to pastoral work and to church life."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Andover Newton Theological School"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["63ab0f5c-c5fb-460c-b8ba-dd2fd91f7145"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791133051414118400,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:13:08.399Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:29:34Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T06:04:31Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"be9286e2-dbeb-490c-91e0-bfcd05524ce4","accessControl_ssim":["d5217ac1-55ba-4b58-9aec-f570ec220b1d"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["The relationship between campus ministry and the local church: a model for the 1980s"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:29:33Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T03:37:11Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["d3447503-7efd-4054-a278-56d48b93b83d"],"hasLease_ssim":["25533d64-bc75-424f-b651-5e3d06325317"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Bert Affleck"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["R Clayton Worden"],"keyword_tesim":["Campus ministry"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Church work with youth"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The present direction of campus ministry is toward relationship with local churches where there may be a resource and strong ministry of support for campus religious life. This links campus and parish ministries in taking advantage of the model for community life, spiritual growth and service. A model of this kind of nurturing ministry and analysis of its inherent Christian value forms the basis of this study. The model is limited to ministry to and with students, not the total academic community. It is a new plan of ministry that involves the local parish, campus ministry, student and local clergy. It examines women in the American economic scene, and the rapid entrance of women in the job market following WW II. To ease the pressure of combined job and home responsibilities, many women have dropped out of church. The project reflects the process in which First United Methodist Church of Kearney worked at solving this problem. The theological basis was explored in the light of the writings of the Bible and the writers of women's theology of today. Value conflicts were studied and the impact considered. Programs were designed and implemented into ongoing activities of the church. The programs were then evaluated according to effectiveness in meeting specific needs. Survey instruments were designed and used throughout to measure response and evaluate the success of the program changes. A local Commission on the Status and Role of Women was created along National Church Committee lines. Change was not dramatic but did occur: changed congregational attitudes and raised consciousness level of women of the church."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["38714359-d032-4ed0-ae3f-cb82c8f65a92"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1799716924526952448,"timestamp":"2024-05-22T02:10:07.722Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:27:09Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T02:01:54Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"02d561d1-aaf6-4023-96d9-c5eb7f7fa801","accessControl_ssim":["00aae4e6-4445-4244-b14c-be0ecbc79b0e"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Identifying and interpreting the demonic: a critical study in contemporary theology with implications for life and ministry of the congregation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:27:05Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:11:52Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f29b3fbe-bb7c-425c-8ecb-e91237ad0bd4"],"hasLease_ssim":["8e8b82c7-9ca2-4676-bed1-399f8bd44dea"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Herman C Waetjen"],"year_tesim":["1982"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Donald Eugene Roulet"],"keyword_tesim":["Demonic"],"publisher_tesim":["San Francisco Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Interpersonal relations","Exorcism","Congregations","Presbyterian Church"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["This project demonstrates that demon possession and exorcism are archaic ways to identify and interpret the power of liberation as opposed to the reality of dehumanization in the contemporary world. The context is an urban ministry agency of the United Methodist Church working among the urban poor in charleston, west virginia. The most frequent model for 'mission' contact with the local church is interpretation, not prophecy. The prevailing expectation for a missionary is that he or she interpret their work to the local church, not raise prophetic words concerning it. My program found viable ways in which the biblical-theological understanding can be focused in local churches to use their resources. It communicates understandings, awakens consciences, and prompts new directions whisle using the history and stories of local churches. It seeks prophetic faithfulness and humility but tries to avoid prophetic arrogance and judgment by remaining in tune with the biblical prophets but not simply to seek a prophetic way by which the local church may change."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["United Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["f0f9c284-37b6-440c-96ab-39e6509e82ee"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791128533716697088,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:01:19.988Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:55Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T01:39:27Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"e2a79290-25bb-4432-92a5-df6670a1626a","accessControl_ssim":["cfe87496-460f-499e-a9b8-6c316e0c9735"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["An order of mission in the local church"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-11T21:14:54Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T04:37:03Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["70b6b096-1e36-48da-bff5-d4a0c1e9ed52"],"hasLease_ssim":["6cce67e6-4c18-4a5b-a29d-b2219fa30cab"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Stuart McLean"],"year_tesim":["1981"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Ray L Nixon"],"publisher_tesim":["Phillips Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Church group work","Congregations","Mission of the church","Disciples Christian Church (Bartlesville, Okla)","Brueggemann, Walter"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The project evolved from the question of direction a congregation should take seventeen years after establishment.
