An aspect of that polity is autonomy that declares each local Baptist church is a self-governing entity. In this context, lay authority has the potential to be misused and the laity can deselect a pastor at their will. This project, a case study is the presentation of a church to show how the call system works from candidacy to deselection. This study calls for an additional layer of pastoral oversight and recommends that pastors lead Baptist laity in securing pastors. The problem addressed by this project is imbalance in power and authority held by Baptist laity and manifested in the call system. Finally, a new plan is presented for receiving a pastor that is led by a Board of Pastors, which restores balance, and is built on a theological/biblical paradigm that indicates that God gives and sends pastors that are received by a congregation."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Claremont School of Theology"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["e7e2d3cb-fc51-4ba5-a7fd-d43f3f8c150b"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["work_editor","public"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132268257869824,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:00:41.524Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:58:39Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T07:22:33Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"0e797de8-1530-4724-bd41-c0a7658e0ec4","accessControl_ssim":["648dfc88-861b-4888-8800-e8649f7ca308"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Selected case studies of immigrant churches that are reaching the next generation"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:58:38Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-16T22:31:31Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["f172bfa3-0d58-45f6-a8c9-cf4ced982eb5"],"hasLease_ssim":["8c5b10bd-b673-471f-8cec-0909f8974130"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["David R Fletcher"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Kenslio Ojentis"],"publisher_tesim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Congregations","Emigration and immigration","Generations"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["The thesis of this dissertation is that immigrant churches that reach the successive generations demonstrate specific practices that bridge the cultural and generation gaps. The body of the dissertation is divided into three parts. The first part examines current literature on the following: (1) Immigrants' role in America's changing demographic and the role of religion in the preservation of language and culture, (2) The historical development of ministries to the second-generation immigrants, (3) attempts to foster intergenerational relationships (4) the importance of leadership development, and (5) biblical parallels of generational and cultural challenges. The second part involves the research procedure and the rationale for choosing the case study methodology to investigate the selected immigrant churches in their specific cultural and religious contexts. The last part details case studies of immigrant churches that successfully minister to their second-generation believers. Since second-generation church members live and actively participate in the world of their parents and that of the land of their birth, they are often conflicted with unique challenges related to acculturation. The challenge for the immigrant church is to determine which indigenous religious policies, traditions, and cultural practices are worth adopting and which need to be rejected; which need to be retained, and which must be negotiated and adapted. As a result, the dissertation then concludes with a chapter detailing some best practices that are intergenerational and transcultural to fit in various ethnic contexts. These principles will make the case for the immigrant church to be regarded both as a multigenerational and an intergenerational household."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Dallas Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["8322f611-a593-413a-8bcd-0011fba52dc7"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791129871882125312,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T07:22:36.162Z","score":1.0},{"system_create_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:57:33Z","system_modified_dtsi":"2024-05-22T03:01:34Z","has_model_ssim":["Etd"],"id":"a3756f6f-2b7c-4630-8ea8-0e774a632483","accessControl_ssim":["59041d9a-e087-42c9-9dd4-f6c6e083a5b0"],"depositor_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"depositor_tesim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"title_tesim":["Opening our doors congregational renewal and transformation following 'superstorm' Sandy"],"date_uploaded_dtsi":"2023-10-12T16:57:32Z","date_modified_dtsi":"2024-02-17T02:53:12Z","isPartOf_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8"],"hasEmbargo_ssim":["23f6e867-d9ac-4e8f-ab17-cf22924aeab1"],"hasLease_ssim":["298b8d17-f468-4c29-9553-b64bf8da7992"],"show_pdf_viewer_tesim":["1"],"show_pdf_download_button_tesim":["1"],"institution_tesim":["Atla RIM"],"degree_tesim":["Unknown"],"degree_granting_institution_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"advisor_tesim":["Scott Thumma"],"year_tesim":["2015"],"resource_type_tesim":["Unknown"],"types_tesim":["Text"],"creator_tesim":["Joyce Antila Phipps"],"keyword_tesim":["Crisis"],"publisher_tesim":["Hartford Seminary"],"subject_tesim":["Religious aspects","Hurricane Sandy, 2012--Social aspects","Congregations","Hurricane Sandy (2012)"],"language_tesim":["English"],"abstract_tesim":["Congregational transformation often occurs in the midst of crisis. Throughout the years several ministries have been created. Many church leaders have been trained to help the senior pastor carry out the church's daunting task. Each ministry has a leader in charge. Preaching and teaching the Word of God are the cornerstone of Tabernacle Baptist Congregation. Christian education is for the church what water is for a fish. Sunday School plays a vital role in the church's programs. However, Sunday School evangelism has so far been neglected. Can Tabernacle Baptist Congregation have any potential for spiritual growth without the promotion of the Great Commission? The promotion of Sunday School evangelism at Tabernacle Baptist Congregation would enable the author of this thesis project to respond. A congregational profile will enable the author of this thesis project to discover the challenges that this church is facing in promoting Sunday School outreach. This congregational profile will also enable the author to find the causes of this systemic problem."],"rights_statement_tesim":["https://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/"],"thumbnail_path_ss":"/assets/work-a3b75da7abded620ab321410c80d102e5e2417b71c54de7ba7d4b0363da904f7.png","suppressed_bsi":false,"actionable_workflow_roles_ssim":["f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-approving","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-depositing","f6c99b2a-5c91-4444-8946-01a1837f1fd8-default-managing"],"workflow_state_name_ssim":["deposited"],"member_of_collections_ssim":["Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary"],"member_of_collection_ids_ssim":["31b95ee0-a31c-43dc-8ec9-d97b30239a2d"],"visibility_ssi":"open","admin_set_tesim":["Metadata Only"],"account_cname_tesim":["rim.ir.atla.com"],"human_readable_type_tesim":["Etd"],"read_access_group_ssim":["public","work_editor"],"edit_access_group_ssim":["admin"],"edit_access_person_ssim":["ckarpinski@atla.com"],"_version_":1791132891425538048,"timestamp":"2024-02-17T08:10:35.822Z","score":1.0}],"facets":[{"name":"resource_type_sim","items":[{"value":"Unknown","hits":436,"label":"Unknown"},{"value":"D.Min.
