By doubtful is meant all things upon which the Bible makes no pronouncement, either by way of acceptance or prohibition. The method of study was, first of all, to pursue all occurences of the term 'conscience' in the New Testament, discerning what it is and how it functions.  Secondly, the two major passages of scripture on the subject were exegeted (that is, 1 Corinthians 8-10 and Romans 14:1-15:7, which deal with the Christian attitude toward doubtful things).  It was concluded that where the scripture neither condones nor prohibits a Christian's involvement in an activity, he has the freedom to participate in good conscience.
