The wilderness narratives from the Hebrew Scriptures communicate to the church a theological event where God was encountered and the people were sustained.  The wilderness narratives create a point of crisis when countered by a culture based on consumerism.  The narrative of consumerism is explored as a dominant script for the congregation of First Baptist Church of Marietta.
